Christmas Markets Bielsko-Biała 2026: Dates and Program

TL;DRThe Christmas markets in Bielsko-Biała, Poland take place during just one December weekend, 11–13 December 2026, so mark your calendar. The city is about an hour’s drive from Ostrava via the S52 expressway, and you won’t pay any Polish tolls after crossing the border. Admission is free, and on weekends you can even park in the city center zone without charge. If you want evening concerts and market stalls just steps from your bed, choose a hotel in the Old Town.

Anyone heading to the Polish city of Bielsko-Biała on the first Sunday of Advent, 29 November 2026, would be in for an unpleasant surprise: the Christmas market isn’t up yet. The local Christmas market Świąteczny Jarmark, which is part of the city event Święta na Starówce (Christmas in the Old Town), doesn’t run for a whole month but takes place only during a single weekend, 11–13 December 2026. If you mark this December date in your diary and enjoy discovering Christmas markets in Poland, you have an interesting destination just beyond the border.

Why is it worth hitting these particular three days? The city became Polish Capital of Culture (PSK 2026) for the year 2026 and included the pre-Christmas event in its year-round program. Looking at last year’s 2025 edition, visitors enjoyed evening concerts, the handover of the Bethlehem Peace Light, an outdoor disco on the Rynek, and a St. Nicholas zone with workshops for children.

The practical side of the trip is also appealing, because admission to the event is free and from Ostrava you can reach it by car via the expressway in an hour. From Friday evening throughout the weekend, you won’t pay a single zloty for parking in the city center zone. We’ve compiled everything you need, from transport and hotel tips to approximate program times and trips into the Beskids.

When Are the Christmas Markets in Bielsko-Biała 2026

The Christmas markets in Bielsko-Biała don’t run throughout Advent but take place during just one December weekend. The 2026 edition is organized by the culture and promotion department of the city hall (Urząd Miejski, Wydział Kultury i Promocji), while last year in 2025 the event was organized by BCK im. Marii Koterbskiej.

Dates and Opening Hours

Write down the date from Friday 11 December to Sunday 13 December 2026 in your diary. These dates are listed in the cultural capital program on the website bb2026.pl, where the city currently mentions only Rynek and city squares (Rynek i miejskie place) as the venue, and has not yet published opening hours or a detailed program for 2026.

For a basic idea, we can look at last year’s 2025 edition (12–14 December 2025). Back then, the stalls opened from noon on Friday, concerts began at 18:00, on Friday and Saturday there was a disco on the Rynek from 22:00, and on Sunday the program ran from 16:00 to around 20:00.

Why Just One Weekend and What to Do at Other Times During Advent

In recent years, the market has always taken place about two weeks before Christmas: in 2023 it was 15–17 December, last year in 2025 it fell on 12–14 December, and in 2026 it’s scheduled for 11–13 December 2026. So it has always been a short weekend market.

If you have time off at another point in December and come outside this weekend, you can head into the surrounding Beskids, or drive 58 km to Katowice (about an hour’s drive). On the Rynek in Katowice, there’s a Christmas market that runs throughout Advent.

Christmas Tree Lighting at Plac Chrobrego

Last year, the market was preceded by the lighting of the city tree, which took place on 6 December at plac Chrobrego square, where a 15-meter-tall tree stood.

The tree lighting date for 2026 has not yet been announced by the city. As December approaches, we recommend following the website bck.bielsko.pl, where information about the event appears.

Where to Stay in Bielsko-Biała

Since last year the evening concerts started at 18:00 and the Saturday disco didn’t end until 1:00 in the morning, it’s worth combining your market visit with an overnight stay. You can choose from three areas depending on whether you want to stay right by the action, near a shopping center, or below the mountains.

Old Town, Walking Distance to the Market

If you want the event right around the corner and don’t want to worry about your car, look for accommodation in the center between Rynek in the Old Town (Bielsko) and the pedestrian street 11 Listopada (Biała). All the market locations are just a few minutes’ walk from each other, so you can walk to the concerts and the evening disco.

Hotel President in a historic building at ul. 3 Maja 12 by Sułkowski Castle, newly renovated, is a few minutes’ walk from Rynek.

Near Galeria Sfera

A practical choice is the area around Galeria Sfera shopping center on Mostowa street, from where you’re just a few minutes’ walk to plac Wojska Polskiego square. The location with parking at the shopping center is good for families arriving by car, and you’ll appreciate it in bad weather too.

Qubus Hotel Bielsko-Biała Centrum at ul. Mostowa 2 (Galeria Sfera II) is a four-star hotel in the Sfera shopping center with center parking, from where you can walk to plac Wojska Polskiego in a few minutes.

Below Szyndzielnia and Dębowiec

If you want to combine the market with the mountains, look at the quieter neighborhoods of Olszówka, Dębowiec, and Mikuszowice toward Szyndzielnia mountain. Hotels here are located by the Dębowiec ski slope and the cable car to Szyndzielnia, and you can get to the center by car or public transport.

Hotel Dębowiec is a hotel with half board near the Dębowiec ski slope, about 800 m from the lift and 1.4 kilometers from the lower station of the cable car to Szyndzielnia, suitable for combining the market with the mountains.

💡 On this map you can compare what’s currently available — you’ll immediately see how much the price changes a few blocks away.

Where to Find the Market

You can tell from the name itself that Bielsko-Biała is a twin city made up of the Bielsko and Biała sections. While Rynek is located in the Old Town (Stare Miasto), plac Wojska Polskiego square can be found on the Biała side. For 2026, the city lists only Rynek and city squares as the venue; last year in 2025 the event took place on Rynek, plac Wojska Polskiego, plac Ratuszowy, and in buildings with workshops.

Rynek

Rynek square in the Old Town was one of the market locations in 2025. On Friday and Saturday from 22:00, there was also an evening disco here.

Plac Wojska Polskiego, Main Stage

On the Biała side lies plac Wojska Polskiego square. In 2025, the main stage stood here, where carols, folk, and pop music rang out, and on Saturday evening the Bethlehem Peace Light was handed over.

Ratusz and Ul. 11 Listopada, Workshops

Accompanying workshops in 2025 took place in the town hall building (Ratusz, plac Ratuszowy 1) and at the Punkt 11 space on 11 Listopada street 24. Plac Ratuszowy square was closed to traffic in 2025 from Thursday 11 December at 18:00 until Monday 15 December at 6:00, so expect a similar closure in 2026 (exact times not yet known).

Program: Concerts, Light of Peace, and St. Nicholas Zone

The organizers have not yet published the program for 2026, but entry to the event is free. As a reference for what to expect on site, we’ll review last year’s program from 2025 (December 12–14, 2025).

Friday

Last year the market stalls opened on Friday from noon (the organizer stated “od południa”). Evening concerts began at 6:00 PM and from 10:00 PM a disco on Rynek followed.

Saturday

According to last year’s schedule, Saturday is the best day to visit. From 6:00 PM concerts ran on the main stage at Plac Wojska Polskiego (last year featured performances by Enej and the folklore ensemble ZPiT Beskid, among others). At 8:00 PM the Bethlehem Light of Peace ceremony took place, followed by a disco on Rynek from 10:00 PM until 1:00 AM.

Sunday

On Sunday last year, the program ran in the afternoon and early evening from 4:00 PM to approximately 8:00 PM. This time slot works well if you’re driving back in the evening on Sunday.

Children’s Program

For children, last year featured a St. Nicholas Zone with Santa and elves. At Ratusz (Plac Ratuszowy 1) and at Punkt 11 (ul. 11 Listopada 24), ornament-making workshops and chocolate workshops were held, both free of charge.

What to Taste and Buy

At the stalls you’ll find Christmas decorations, handmade crafts, and food. The organizer does not specify the exact offerings for 2026, but if available at the stalls, we recommend trying Polish mulled wine grzaniec or gingerbread to warm up.

Payment is in Polish złoty (zł). Bring both cash and a card, as not every stall may accept cards.

How to Get There and Where to Park

From the border crossing at Český Těšín (Czechia) and Cieszyn (Poland), the S52 expressway leads all the way to Bielsko-Biała.

By Car from Czech Cities

If driving from Ostrava, Brno, or Prague, you’ll travel via Český Těšín and Cieszyn, then continue on the S52 expressway. Navigation estimates tend to be optimistic, so allow for the upper end of these estimates:

FromDistanceDriving TimeRoute
:—:—:—:—
Ostrava86 km1 to 1.25 hČeský Těšín, S52
Brno229 km2.5 to 3 hD1, D48 via Frýdek-Místek, Český Těšín, S52
Prague432 km4.5 to 5 hD1 via Brno, D48, Český Těšín, S52

Tolls and Highway Vignettes in Poland

If driving through Czechia, you’ll need a motorway vignette for the D1 motorway (or D48 or D56 depending on your route). In Poland, passenger cars under 3.5 tonnes do not require a motorway vignette, and the e-TOLL system applies only to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.

In Poland, only concession sections of motorways are tolled: A1 (Rusocin-Nowa Wieś), A2 (Świecko-Konin), and A4 (Katowice-Kraków). On the route from the Czech Republic to Bielsko-Biała, you won’t travel on any of these; just be aware when taking a side trip from Katowice to Kraków on the A4 motorway, where you pay at toll gates.

By Train and Bus

There is no direct train from Czechia to Bielsko-Biała. However, the journey can be made with a transfer: from Ostrava-Svinov you can take a ČD train to Český Těšín in about 50 minutes, walk across the bridge to Cieszyn, and continue from there by Koleje Śląskie train or bus to Bielsko.

On the Polish line Cieszyn–Czechowice-Dziedzice, a replacement bus may operate, so check your connection in advance on IDOS and kolejeslaskie.pl. FlixBus does have routes from Prague to Bielsko-Biała, but aggregators show 11 to 12.5 hours of travel with transfers, so we recommend driving.

City Center Parking

The city paid parking zone (Strefa Płatnego Parkowania, SPP), managed by MZD Bielsko-Biała (mzd.bielsko.pl), operates in the center only from Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. On Friday after 5:00 PM and throughout Saturday and Sunday—the two main market days—parking in the SPP zone is free.

💡 Tip: If you arrive on Friday before 5:00 PM, pay for parking at a machine (coins, card, BLIK) or via the SkyCash or moBilet apps; the surcharge for non-payment in 2026 is 150 zł.

How to Combine the Market with a Trip to the Beskids

Since the main market program runs in the afternoon and evening, you can take a daytime trip to the Beskids.

Cable Car to Szyndzielnia

In Bielsko you’ll find a cable car to Szyndzielnia, which measures 1,810 meters and takes you to an elevation of 958 m with views over the Beskids (check kolej-szyndzielnia.pl before your trip). For children, the city ski slope Dębowiec in Bielsko has a chairlift and a year-round bobsled track.

Szczyrk and Wisła

About 19 km from the city (roughly 20 minutes’ drive) lies Szczyrk, where you can go skiing in the Beskids if the season has already started, and combine it with the market in one weekend. Another tip for a weekend is the mountain town of Wisła in the Beskids, 39 km away.

Cieszyn Along the Way

On your way to or from Bielsko-Biała, you can stop in the border twin towns of Cieszyn and Český Těšín, located 37 km from Bielsko-Biała. The Christmas events program for Cieszyn in 2026 has not yet been announced.

Weekend Itinerary Friday to Sunday

An indicative weekend plan for December 11–13, 2026 based on last year’s program from 2025 and surrounding attractions could look like this:

  • Friday, December 11: Arrive after 5:00 PM when you can park for free in the SPP zone, browse the stalls (last year open from noon), and attend the evening concerts from 6:00 PM or the disco on Rynek from 10:00 PM.
  • Saturday, December 12: Morning cable car to Szyndzielnia (check operations at kolej-szyndzielnia.pl) or drive 19 km to Szczyrk if the season has started, with children visit the St. Nicholas Zone and workshops (last year during weekend program), and in the evening stay for concerts from 6:00 PM, the Light of Peace ceremony at 8:00 PM, and the disco until 1:00 AM.
  • Sunday, December 13: Morning visit to Dębowiec area with children, between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM enjoy the Sunday program, and on your way back stop in Cieszyn, 37 km away.

💡 Tip: With children, head to the St. Nicholas Zone and the ornament-making or chocolate workshops, which were free last year at Ratusz and Punkt 11.

Payment is in Polish złoty (zł). Bring both cash and a card, as not every stall may accept cards.

💡 Tip: When driving, expect Plac Ratuszowy to be closed—last year it was inaccessible from Thursday 6:00 PM to Monday 6:00 AM.
