5 Reasons to Start Meditating and How to Do It (+Free Guided Recording)

I’ve been actively meditating for over 8 months, and I can confidently say that the meditation benefits have genuinely improved my life. I haven’t reached any “zen balance,” nor have I experienced enlightenment, but I’ve learned how to be more present in the moment, experience everyday life more deeply, and maintain a clear and rational mind.

Why Meditate: How Meditation Boosts Productivity

Through meditation, I’ve learned to understand myself better and, as a result, manage my reactions and emotions more effectively. I’ve eliminated excessive stress and learned to focus on what truly matters — without getting constantly distracted by trivial things.

How to start meditating

In short, meditation has taught me a great deal, and I’m convinced it can benefit absolutely everyone. Personally, I find guided meditation works best for me — I pop on my headphones, hit play, and simply follow the instructor’s voice. Over time, I’ve found my favourites and I keep coming back to them again and again.

Finding Good Guided Meditations Can Be Tricky

One challenge is finding genuinely good guided meditation audio tracks. A lot of what you’ll come across on YouTube is a mishmash of overly spiritual waffle, recorded on dodgy microphones with dreadful background music. Thankfully, there are some brilliant apps and channels out there if you know where to look — platforms like Headspace, Calm, and Insight Timer offer high-quality guided sessions for all levels.

My Own Guided Recording

That’s why I decided to create my own 7-day meditation programme suitable for absolutely anyone. I’ve recorded the first sample and would love to get your feedback. Take a few minutes out of your day to try this guided meditation exercise and let me know how you feel afterwards. 😃

Before You Press Play

A lot of people picture all sorts of intimidating rituals when they hear the word “meditation” — bald barefoot monks chanting in the mountains. They couldn’t be further from the truth.   At its core, meditation is simply deep focus. By concentrating on one single thing (usually your breathing), supported by eliminating external distractions (finding a quiet room, closing your eyes), you’re actively strengthening your brain. Think of it as a muscle — the more you train it, the stronger it gets.

Why meditate

Most people have no idea how much they’re missing about themselves until they truly dive inward during meditation. It’s not about reaching some ecstatic state (though that’s possible too! :)) — it’s about taking a few minutes each day to slow down, organise your thoughts, and clear your head.

5 Meditation Benefits You’ll Notice Quickly

1) True Relaxation

Very few activities can relax you as deeply as meditation. After just ten minutes, I feel completely recharged and ready to take on the rest of the day. It’s like plugging yourself in and topping up your batteries. 😃

2) Better Sleep

Perhaps you’re like me — sometimes your mind races with so many thoughts that you simply can’t fall asleep. One of the long-term meditation benefits is calmer evenings and deeper, more restorative sleep. If you struggle with insomnia, sleep meditation can be a real game-changer.

3) Emotional Control

You know those moments when you lose your temper, feel overwhelmingly sad, or find yourself shouting at someone — and even while you’re doing it, you already regret it?   Meditation helps you manage your emotions. You learn to recognise when anger is building up and how to handle it constructively. It can make you more measured in expressing strong emotions — which comes in handy more often than you’d think. 🙂

4) Stress Management

We all deal with a certain amount of stress every single day. The problem arises when it becomes overwhelming — it’s unhealthy and incredibly hard to fight.   During a meditation exercise, you get the chance to set your stress aside for a moment, relax, and focus on one single thing — your breathing. After just a few minutes, you’ll feel noticeably better.

5) Increased Productivity

From personal experience, I know you can literally meditate your way to a more productive day. Try it yourself — meditate on 3 days of the week, skip it on the other 4, and jot down what you accomplished and how you felt each day. I guarantee you’ll notice a difference.

Guided Meditation – Listen Now

I’ve recorded an introductory meditation sample and I’d really appreciate feedback from anyone who gives it a listen. It’s the only way I’ll know whether it’s worth continuing — or whether I should crawl under my desk and hide 🙃

Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation

Don’t Overpay for Flights

Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.

Book Your Accommodation Smartly

The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.

Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).

Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.

Find the Best Experiences

Get Your Guide is a huge online marketplace where you can book guided walks, trips, skip-the-line tickets, tours, and much more. We always find some extra fun there!
