Review: Is LOLA LYKKE the Best Pregnancy Support Belt?

If you’re pregnant and struggling with back pain, you might be wondering whether to get a rebozo wrap or a pregnancy support belt. Personally, I went with a pregnancy support belt because I’m a bit lazy by nature, and putting on a support belt is much quicker than tying a rebozo wrap.

After extensive research, the best pregnancy support belt I found was the one from LOLA&LYKKE, which has won multiple awards including Made for Mums. Let me share my experience with it.

What Is a Pregnancy Support Belt For?

A maternity belt is used to relieve back pain — it essentially supports your bump and reduces the strain on your spine. You can wear it while cooking, cleaning, or walking — basically whenever your back hurts the most.

I used mine most during cooking and baking over Christmas, when at seven months pregnant my back really started to ache. Even on days when my back felt fine during the day, after long periods of standing or walking around, the pain would hit me in the evening when I lay down. It was the kind of pain that brought me to tears. Thankfully, the support belt genuinely helped.

Apparently, a pregnancy belt can also reduce the risk of stretch marks. I didn’t get any new ones during my pregnancy, but it’s hard to say whether the belt deserves the credit for that.

When Should You Start Using a Pregnancy Support Belt?

There’s no set week when you should start wearing a maternity belt — it really depends on how quickly your bump is growing. Most women begin using a pregnancy belt in the second half of pregnancy. I got the most use out of mine from the start of the third trimester, as I didn’t start gaining noticeably until the sixth month and the back pain kicked in during the seventh.

My Experience with the LOLA&LYKKE Pregnancy Belt

Now let’s get into the details of the pregnancy support belt from LOLA&LYKKE. What did I love about it and what could be better?

Material Quality and Craftsmanship

Right out of the box, it was clear that the Lola & Lykke maternity belt is really well made. I could immediately tell it’s constructed from stretchy, breathable materials designed to support the weight of a growing bump.

Looking more closely at the composition, I found that the outer layer is made from 95% bamboo and 5% spandex. Spandex is a soft synthetic polymer fibre used as a lighter alternative to rubber, and it’s always blended with natural materials — in this case bamboo. The spandex provides elasticity and adds durability.

The core of the pregnancy support belt is made from 40% polyester, 40% nylon, and 20% neoprene, which makes it genuinely flexible and able to adapt to your body’s everyday movements.

Adjustability of the Maternity Support Belt

What you’ll probably appreciate most is that you can customise the pregnancy belt to fit your body and bump using two fastening straps and two compression straps with Velcro. The vertical ribbing on the back panel also provides extra lumbar support, further reducing pressure on your spine.

Pocket for Hot and Cold Compresses

The belt comes with a gel pack that you can pop in the microwave to warm it up, then slide into the belt’s built-in pocket. If you prefer cold therapy, simply put the gel pack in the freezer for a while instead.

You can also use the gel pack without the belt, which I did quite regularly. 😁 I used to place it on my neck while sitting down.

Choosing the Right Size – Watch Out for This

Choosing the right size was the trickiest part for me. I couldn’t quite figure it out from the manufacturer’s size chart — maybe it was the pregnancy brain kicking in 😁. I normally wear M in trousers and S in tops, so I wasn’t sure whether to go for S or M.

In the end, I chose S. It did fit, but I was constantly worried I’d “outgrow” it (even though there’s 25 cm of room for bump growth). For extra peace of mind, I’d probably go with M next time. So if you’re between two sizes, go for the bigger one. It’s much easier to tighten a belt than to squeeze into one that’s too snug.

Did the Pregnancy Belt Help with Back Pain?

Yes, it genuinely relieved my back pain while standing and walking. I used it most during cleaning and cooking. The only downside is that the belt isn’t suitable for wearing while sitting, and that’s when I sometimes suffered from tailbone pain and occasional backache too.

If you’re also dealing with discomfort while sitting, you might find a pregnancy pillow helpful for extra support during rest.

What I Loved About the LOLA&LYKKE Pregnancy Belt

Here’s why I chose this particular brand:

  • Built-in pocket for hot and cold compresses + gel pack for microwave / freezer,
  • material that’s both highly stretchy and soft against the skin,
  • Compression Technology® for excellent bump support,
  • high-quality Finnish design and craftsmanship = Scandinavian quality,
  • winner of the Design from Finland award,
  • won two bronze awards at the Made for Mums Awards 2020 and Made for Mums Awards 2022 as the best health product for parents.

What I Didn’t Like About This Maternity Belt

There isn’t much to criticise, really. The main drawback is that it’s fairly pricey — expect to pay around €65–75. However, the price does match the quality. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, it’s worth checking out alternatives on Amazon or Boots, though in my experience you do get what you pay for with maternity support belts.

Where to Buy the Best Pregnancy Support Belt

The LOLA&LYKKE pregnancy support belt is available through their official website with delivery across the UK and Europe. You can also find it on Amazon UK for quick delivery.

LOLA&LYKKE is a Finnish brand founded with a clear mission: to create a space for expectant and new mums where they can find products focused on their own wellbeing. Their goal is to highlight that before and after the birth of a baby, maternal care matters just as much as caring for the little one.

It’s also worth noting that if you’re planning ahead, LOLA&LYKKE also offers a postpartum recovery belt that many mums swear by for post-birth recovery support.

Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation

Don’t Overpay for Flights

Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.

Book Your Accommodation Smartly

The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.

Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).

Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.

Find the Best Experiences

Get Your Guide is a huge online marketplace where you can book guided walks, trips, skip-the-line tickets, tours, and much more. We always find some extra fun there!
