easyJet Baggage 2026: Hand, Cabin & Checked Sizes and Fees

When it comes to easyJet baggage, the airline has one huge advantage over its low-cost rivals that Lukáš and I genuinely love: the free bag is actually big. While Ryanair and Wizz Air force you to squeeze everything into tiny dimensions, easyJet lets you slide a bag under the seat that’s roomy enough for a weekend trip for two. 😁

That doesn’t mean you can’t get stung, though. Quite the opposite — there are a few traps that catch people out and cost them money for nothing, mostly around the large cabin bag and the pricier seats. But once you know how it works, you can fly with only what’s included for free.

In this guide you’ll find all the easyJet baggage types for 2026, their dimensions, weights and rough prices, plus a full overview of the fees and easyJet Plus membership. easyJet prices are dynamic and usually quoted in pounds, so treat them as a rough guide and always check the current amount when you book.

Travel bag as easyJet hand luggage

easyJet baggage in a nutshell

  • Free small bag: a generous 45×36×20 cm and up to 15 kg, fits under the seat — everyone gets one.
  • Large cabin bag (56×45×25 cm, 15 kg): only for an extra fee, or with easyJet Plus or a FLEXI fare.
  • Checked baggage: 15 or 23 kg, top up in 3 kg steps to 32 kg per item, always cheaper online.
  • The trap: the pricier Up Front and Extra Legroom seats do not include the large cabin bag.
  • Always cheaper online than at the gate, where unpaid baggage costs many times more.

Free small bag: 45×36×20 and up to 15 kg

This is the main reason I love easyJet for packing light. Every passenger, regardless of fare, can bring one small bag for free measuring 45×36×20 cm and weighing up to 15 kg, which must fit under the seat in front of you. For comparison, Ryanair only allows 40×30×20 cm for free, so easyJet is significantly more generous here.

Pack smartly and you can fit a surprising amount into a bag this size — easily enough for a one-person week-long trip. If you’re not sure how to fit everything into these dimensions and travel with just this, take a look at our guide to packing for hand luggage.

💡 Tip: Even though the limit is 15 kg, you have to lift the bag yourself and stow it under the seat, so don’t overload it. A soft backpack or holdall also slips into the sizer more easily than a rigid hard case.

Large cabin bag (56×45×25) and who gets it

When the small bag isn’t enough, you can also bring a large cabin bag measuring 56×45×25 cm and weighing up to 15 kg, which goes up in the overhead locker. But this is not automatically free. You get it if you pay for it online (roughly from around £6), or if you have easyJet Plus, a FLEXI fare or a Standard Plus bundle.

⚠️ And here’s easyJet’s sneakiest trap: the pricier Up Front and Extra Legroom seats do NOT include the large cabin bag. easyJet scrapped this perk back in June 2023, so even if you pay for a better seat, you still have to buy the large bag separately. Plenty of people end up out of pocket over this.

If you don’t add the large cabin bag and bring it to the gate, easyJet will put it in the hold for a fee of around £48. So it always pays to sort it online in advance, where it’s many times cheaper.

Checked baggage: 15, 23 up to 32 kg

For a longer holiday you’ll want checked baggage in the hold. easyJet offers a 15 kg option (online only, at a lower price) and a standard 23 kg, and you can top up the weight in 3 kg steps up to 32 kg per item. You’re allowed up to three checked bags per person, and the sum of each bag’s dimensions must be under 275 cm.

The same golden rule applies as with every low-cost airline: buy everything online in advance. The exact same bag sorted at the airport desk will cost you a lot more. One nice exception is that families can share the weight of checked bags across items on a single booking, as long as none of them goes over 32 kg.

Large cabin bag or checked? How to decide

It mostly comes down to the length of your trip and the number of travellers. To give you an idea, here are three typical scenarios.

A light weekend: the free small bag usually wins here. Thanks to the generous 45×36×20 cm and 15 kg, it holds more than enough and costs you nothing. Only bother with the large cabin bag if you genuinely need more room.

A week by the sea (solo): compare the price of the large cabin bag and checked 23 kg. For a shorter stay with a cheap add-on, the cabin bag wins — plus you skip the baggage carousel. If you need more, go for checked.

Two people or a family: often the cheapest option is one shared checked bag you pack together, plus a free small bag for everyone. It’s worth comparing the options in the basket before you pay.

All easyJet fees (and how to avoid them)

easyJet, like the other low-cost carriers, makes its money mainly on the things you didn’t sort out in advance. Here’s a rundown of the most common ones. The amounts are approximate, in pounds, and always highest at the gate.

FeeHow much (approx.)When it happens
Small bagfreealways
Large cabin bag onlinefrom ~£6added in advance
Bag at the gate~£48 / itemunpaid large bag at the gate
Checked at the airport~£40–55not bought online in advance
Excess weight~£12 / kgchecked bag heavier than paid for
Approximate easyJet fees. Almost all of them can be avoided by preparing in advance.

See the common thread? Nearly every fee only appears at the airport or at the gate. If you sort your baggage and check-in online and stick to the dimensions, you pay next to nothing extra.

easyJet Plus and fares: when they’re worth it

easyJet has several options around baggage and seats, and it’s easy to get lost in them. Here’s a quick translation.

  • easyJet Plus: annual membership (roughly around £249) that includes a free large cabin bag on every flight, a dedicated check-in desk, priority boarding, Fast Track and seat selection. It pays off from around eight to ten flights a year.
  • FLEXI: a fare that includes the large cabin bag, a 23 kg checked bag, priority boarding and free flight changes.
  • Standard Plus: a newer bundle that combines a chosen seat, 23 kg checked baggage, both the small and large cabin bag and other perks in one.

💡 Tip: If you only fly easyJet a few times a year, neither the membership nor the pricier fares will pay off. Just add exactly what you need online in advance and you’ll save the most.

Online check-in and boarding pass

With easyJet, check in online and use the mobile boarding pass in the app — it’s the easiest and cheapest route. Online check-in usually opens around a month before departure and closes a few hours before, so check the exact window for your booking in good time.

Have your boarding pass downloaded on your phone and keep the phone charged, so there’s nothing to sort out at the gate. The most important thing is a readable QR code.

Special baggage: kids, sports, instruments and pets

Travelling with something unusual? easyJet has its own rules, and it’s pleasantly generous with children. For each child you can bring up to two pieces of baby equipment for free in the hold — for example a pushchair and a car seat — and you can even check the pushchair right at boarding. An infant on your lap is also entitled to a changing bag up to 45×36×20 cm.

Sports equipment like skis, a bike or golf clubs go in the hold only, for a fee of roughly £45 online (more at the airport), up to 32 kg. A bike must be packed in a suitable cover.

And important for pet lovers: easyJet does not carry any animals — not in the cabin, not in the hold. The only exception is certified assistance dogs, which must be declared in advance. Emotional support animals don’t count. So if you’re travelling with a dog or cat, you’ll need to choose a different airline.

Liquids and what you can(not) take on board

The liquids rule isn’t invented by easyJet — it applies at security in general. You can take liquids, gels and sprays in containers up to 100 ml, all together in a single transparent bag of up to 1 litre. The exceptions are medicines and baby food in the quantities you need.

Many UK and European airports allow more in 2026 thanks to new scanners, but this isn’t the case everywhere and it varies from airport to airport. Plan reliably for 100 ml and treat anything more as a bonus. A great trick to get around the limit is to switch to solid, water-free toiletries, which don’t count as liquids. We write more about this in our light packing guide.

Is paid hand luggage about to end? (EU 2026)

You may have heard that hand luggage is supposed to be free with every airline. There’s some truth in it, but also some confusion. In January 2026 the European Parliament backed the right to bring a small extra piece of hand luggage into the cabin for free — but it isn’t law yet.

The proposal got stuck in negotiations between the Parliament and the member states, and by mid-2026 there’s a risk they won’t agree on the final form. Until the rule comes into force, the airlines’ current rules apply, so with easyJet you should keep planning around what we describe in this article. Keep an eye on the situation, but don’t count on being entitled to a free large bag just yet.

Where to next

Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation

Don’t Overpay for Flights

Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.

Book Your Accommodation Smartly

The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.

Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).

Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.

Find the Best Experiences

Get Your Guide is a huge online marketplace where you can book guided walks, trips, skip-the-line tickets, tours, and much more. We always find some extra fun there!
