At Horní náměstí square in Opava, punch and trdelník have been on sale since October 23, 2026, and at Valtice Castle, the Christmas Castle Circuit opens on November 11, 2026, featuring thousands of baubles and figurines from Czech and Moravian glassmakers. The Christmas markets themselves then start in Moravia on November 20 in Opava, and in some cities continue until Three Kings’ Day on January 6, 2027. For a nationwide comparison, see our overview of the best Christmas markets in the Czech Republic, while here you’ll find Moravian cities and their dates.
The individual events in Moravia differ in format. In cities like Brno, Olomouc, Ostrava, Opava, Kroměříž, Zlín, and Uherské Hradiště, you’ll find full Advent markets running in the squares from late November until Christmas or early January, while in Třebíč and Jihlava these are Advent markets with their own programs. Elsewhere you’ll find jarmark (traditional folk markets) selling handcrafted and folk products; in Rožnov and Mikulov these last only one weekend.
A third option is the castle interiors at Valtice and Lednice, where instead of standing at market stalls you stroll through princely apartments and state rooms. Below you’ll find an overview of 13 Moravian destinations, a table of dates, accommodation tips, and practical advice on transportation and parking, so you know where to go and which weekend to choose.

Olomouc
In Olomouc, the historic center between Horní náměstí and Univerzitní street works well, from where you can walk to the markets, or alternatively the area around Galerie Šantovka with easier parking. Details about the first hotel are summarized in our review of OREA Hotel Arigone.

The Pálava region includes Mikulov below the castle, Valtice with wine guesthouses and cellars, and Lednice by the castle. The December 12–13 weekend (market in Mikulov and Christmas circuit in Valtice) tends to fill up quickly; additional options are summarized in the article on accommodation in Pálava.

13 Best Christmas Markets in Moravia
Each of the following places has its own rhythm, from city markets spanning multiple squares to a two-day fair in an open-air museum or a tour of château chambers. Here’s an overview of all thirteen stops.

1. Olomouc: Markets at Upper and Lower Squares
If you’re wondering when the Christmas markets start in Olomouc, mark Sunday, November 22, 2026, when the official opening takes place at 6:00 PM (the organizer doesn’t list a separate tree lighting ceremony for 2026). This is an all-Advent market called Olomouc Christmas that runs until Christmas Eve, December 24, 2026, at Upper Square with around 100 stalls and at Lower Square with approximately 25 stalls. Sales stalls are open daily 10:00 AM–8:00 PM and refreshments until 10:00 PM, with opening hours potentially extended depending on demand.
At Upper Square by the town hall with its astronomical clock, you’ll find a roughly 15-meter Christmas tree, a wooden viewing platform made from two shipping containers, and a historic carousel, while the markets also feature a mulled wine trail with a collectible card. Lower Square will offer a nativity scene by carver Vincker, a second stage with a family program, Santa’s Workshop with a Christmas post office, and on weekdays 10:00 AM–12:00 PM also a quiet mode for people with ASD (autism spectrum disorders). More tips for the city are summarized in our what to see in Olomouc article, and for accommodation the historic center between Upper Square and University Street is a good choice.

2. Brno: Brno Christmas
The largest all-Advent markets in Moravia take over Freedom Square, Dominican Square and the Old Town Hall courtyard from November 27 to December 23, 2026 (trial sales start November 25 and sales are possible until December 26). The Christmas tree at Freedom Square will be lit on Friday November 27 at 5:00 PM, and the main squares are open daily 10:00 AM–8:00 PM (extended to midnight if there’s demand). You’ll find details in our guide to Brno Christmas markets 2026.

3. Ostrava: Ostrava Christmas
Ostrava Christmas is an all-Advent market at four squares in the center (main stage at Masaryk Square plus Jirásk, Prokeš and Dr. E. Beneš Squares) and ranks among the longest markets in Moravia, running from Saturday November 21, 2026, until Epiphany on January 6, 2027. The organizer hasn’t yet published stall opening hours for 2026; in previous years they were usually 10:00 AM–8:00 PM. We’ve written a complete overview in our Ostrava Christmas markets 2026 article.

4. Opava: One of the First Markets in Moravia
Opava opens its all-Advent market at Upper and Lower Squares as one of the first in Moravia on Friday November 20, 2026, continuing until Wednesday, December 23, 2026, while sales of mulled wine and trdelník at Upper Square run from October 23, 2026, until January 6, 2027. The main stage and Christmas tree are located at Lower Square, where the tree will be lit on the first Advent Sunday November 29 at 5:45 PM (the organizer hasn’t yet published stall opening hours). Find more information in our Opava Christmas markets 2026 article.

5. Kroměříž: Happy and Merry at Great Square
In Kroměříž, the all-Advent market Happy and Merry awaits you at Great Square in the setting of the Archbishop’s Palace and UNESCO Gardens, running from Sunday November 29 to Wednesday, December 23, 2026, with free entry. From Monday to Thursday, stalls are open 2:00 PM–7:00 PM; Friday to Sunday 10:00 AM–8:00 PM, with November 29 starting at 10:00 AM and December 23 closing at 7:00 PM. The official opening and tree lighting falls on the first Advent Sunday, November 29, though the organizer doesn’t specify the time.
The program will feature new light decorations with photo spots, and on Saturday December 5, 2026, there will be a krampus event (a devilish figure from Alpine tradition) and a fire show. During Advent, performers include Michal Hrůza & Kapela Hrůzy, Petr Bende, Turbo, and Heidi Janků (dates for individual concerts are on the official Kroměříž markets website), and scouts will bring Bethlehem Light, a flame lit in Bethlehem at the Church of the Nativity that scouts distribute across Europe before Christmas.
Last year, Flower Garden had a Christmas tree in the Cold Greenhouse from November 24 to December 14, 2025; this hasn’t been announced yet for 2026. Ideas for a city stroll can be found in our what to see in Kroměříž article, and for accommodation try Hotel and Hostel U Zlatého kohouta at Great Square 21 or Hotel Octárna by the château.

6. Uherské Hradiště: Small and Large Christmas Fair
At Masaryk Square in Uherské Hradiště, the all-Advent Small Christmas Fair runs from Friday November 27, 2026, to January 6, 2027 (opening on November 27; the organizer hasn’t yet published 2026 opening hours). Within this period, from December 12–22, 2026, the Large Christmas Fair of traditional handicrafts takes place. Read details in our guide to Christmas markets in Uherské Hradiště.

Advent Zlín is an all-Advent market at Míru Square from November 27 to December 23, 2026, followed by a post-Christmas program from December 26 to January 3. Stalls with Christmas goods and crafts open only from Saturday December 5, and the organizer hasn’t yet published 2026 opening hours. Tree lighting is scheduled for Sunday, November 29, at 5:45 PM—verify this on the organizer’s website before your visit—and find more details in our Zlín Christmas markets article.

8. Mikulov: Tree Lighting and Christmas Under the Town Hall
In Mikulov, the Advent program runs between November 29 and December 31, 2026, featuring a two-day fair. At Náměstí in Mikulov, the Christmas tree will be lit on the first Advent Sunday, November 29, 2026, though the organizer hasn’t yet published 2026 times (last year in 2025 the program started at 4:00 PM and the tree was lit at 5:55 PM). The main weekend event is Christmas Under the Town Hall on December 12–13, 2026, a two-day fair with music and free entry.
On Saturday December 12, 2026, the fair will be accompanied by Advent at Mikulov Château organized by the Regional Museum. On Christmas Eve December 24, 2026, there will be a morning gathering at Náměstí called Let’s Wish Each Other Well and at the château a Fairy-Tale Château event. Before your trip, you can browse our Mikulov tips and the guide to the Pálava region, and look for accommodation in Mikulov below the château.

9. Valtice and Lednice: Advent at the Châteaux
Instead of a street market, Valtice and Lednice offer château advent. At Valtice State Château, from November 11 to December 23, 2026, the Christmas Château Circuit opens in the princely apartment (the apartment of Franz I of Liechtenstein), where you’ll see thousands of Christmas baubles and figurines from Czech and Moravian glassmakers in 10 rooms. Open daily 10:00 AM–5:00 PM (closed December 24–31), the self-guided tour takes about 30–45 minutes for max. 25 people, and 2026 entrance fees are €7 for adults, €5 for seniors and youth, €2 for children aged 6–17, and free under 5. On Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wine Blessing also takes place at the Spanish Riding Hall.
We didn’t find an advent market at Lednice Château for 2026, but Lednice State Château has the Representation Halls open until Sunday, December 13, 2026 (Tue–Fri tours at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, Sat–Sun 10:00 AM–4:00 PM) and on weekends 10:00 AM–4:00 PM the Palm House, while from December 14 to 31 it’s closed. You can stay in wine guesthouses in Valtice, at Château Hotel Anton Florian (formerly Hotel Hubertus) right in the château, or at Hotel Galant Lednice by Lednice château.

10. Znojmo: Znojmo Advent
For Znojmo Advent at Masaryk Square and in the historic center, the organizer hasn’t yet published dates or program for 2026. Last year, the Christmas tree at Masaryk Square was lit on Sunday November 30, 2025, at 4:45 PM, and last year’s edition included Christmas markets, concerts, winter cinema, a sheep pen, a Ferris wheel, trumpeter carols (Tuesday and Thursday 5:30–6:00 PM), and horse-drawn carriage rides. On Saturday, December 6, 2025, a traditional pig slaughter took place on Hradní Street, and last year’s program was accompanied by a charity project called Fulfilled Wishes.

11. Rožnov pod Radhoštěm: Christmas Fair at the Wallachian Museum
On the weekend of December 12–13, 2026, the Wallachian Open Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm (Palackého 147) hosts a two-day Christmas Fair. The fair runs both days 9:00 AM–4:00 PM in the Wooden Town, with living exhibitions also in the Wallachian Village, and 2026 entrance costs €1 (including a tour of the house from Loubí; tickets available online). You’ll find gifts from folk artisan workshops, caroling, and processions of Lucies and devils.
The museum also organizes Christmas Workshops on December 2–3 in Advent 2026, St. Nicholas Evening on December 5, Candlelight Evening on December 6 at 5:00 PM, Living Nativity on December 19–20, and St. Stephen’s Day Caroling on December 26 at St. Anne’s Church. The city tree lighting is organized by the municipality, and the 2026 date hasn’t been published yet (last year it took place on November 28, 2025, from 4:00 PM at Masaryk Square). You can stay in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm within walking distance of the open-air museum, or at Pustevny.

12. Třebíč: Christmas Square
Advent in Třebíč begins at Charles Square on Sunday November 29, 2026, at 3:00 PM with the Advent opening (the program doesn’t explicitly mention a separate tree lighting). The Christmas Square advent market then runs at Charles Square from Friday December 4 to Sunday, December 20, 2026, with the organizer not yet publishing stall opening hours. On Saturday, December 5, 2026, the Třebíč Fair takes place, with St. Nicholas Gift-Giving at 4:30 PM, and on December 26 at 2:00 PM, St. Stephen’s Day Neighborhood Mulled Wine.

13. Jihlava: Markets and Ice Rink at Masaryk Square
Although Jihlava lies in the Vysočina Region, historically the Bohemian-Moravian provincial border runs through the city, and the center with Masaryk Square stands on the Moravian side. The Advent markets at Masaryk Square begin on Sunday November 29, 2026, when tree lighting is on the program; the end date and stall opening hours haven’t been published yet—verify these on the organizer’s website before your visit.
At Masaryk Square, a free ice rink will operate until February 7, 2027, and the program includes a Christmas train, Ferris wheel, Christmas trolleybus, and a heated tent with children’s workshops. From November 30 to December 21, 2026, Advent at the Town Hall runs, and on Saturday, December 12, a market at the Silver House; more inspiration in the area can be found in our overview of the Vysočina region.
Additional Tips: Smaller Advent Events in Moravia
Besides the thirteen main venues, Moravia also hosts smaller Advent events.
- Štramberk: the organizer has not yet published dates for 2026.
Check the websites of towns and organizers for the current programs of these smaller events.

When to Visit: Weekends Worth Planning For
Two weekends are particularly worthwhile.
First Advent Weekend November 27–29, 2026
The last weekend of November brings most opening ceremonies and tree lightings. On Friday November 27, 2026, markets open in Brno (lighting at 5:00 PM), Uherské Hradiště, and Zlín (craft stalls from December 5 onward), while Opava, Ostrava, Olomouc, and Valtice château are already open. On Sunday November 29, 2026, trees are lit in Kroměříž, Mikulov, Jihlava, Opava (5:45 PM), and Zlín (5:45 PM), and in Třebíč Advent begins at 3:00 PM.
Weekend December 12–13, 2026
On the weekend of December 12–13, 2026, Moravia sees the most short-term fairs happening at once. The two-day Christmas Fair runs at the Wallachian Open-Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm (9:00 AM–4:00 PM), Mikulov hosts the two-day Christmas Under the Town Hall fair along with Saturday’s Advent at the Château, and Uherské Hradiště opens the Large Christmas Handicraft Fair on Saturday. At the same time, it’s the last weekend in December when Lednice château is open (both the State Rooms and Palm House close on December 13), and in Jihlava the market at the Silver House takes place on Saturday, December 12.
💡 Tip: If you want to see Christmas decorations before Advent begins, combine a visit to the Christmas Château Circuit at Valtice (open from November 11) with the afternoon Wine Blessing at the Spanish Riding Hall on Saturday, November 14, 2026 (3:00–7:00 PM).
Itinerary Ideas
- Pálava in 2 Days: Combine the Christmas Château Circuit at Valtice, the two-day fair in Mikulov (December 12–13), and Znojmo. All three towns lie on railway line 246 from Břeclav to Znojmo, so you can travel through them on a single train.
- Olomouc + Kroměříž: The two cities are about 50 kilometers apart, so you can combine markets in Olomouc and Kroměříž in one weekend.
- Ostrava + Opava + Štramberk: Ostrava Christmas can be combined with markets in Opava and a trip to Štramberk (by train from Ostrava approximately 1 hour with a transfer).
- Ostrava + Těšín: You can combine a visit to Ostrava with neighboring Poland. Těšín is a short distance from Ostrava, and you’ll find more in the article on Christmas markets in Poland.

How to Get to the Markets and Where to Park
Brno, Olomouc, Přerov, and Ostrava lie on major railway lines connecting through Olomouc to Ostrava and from Brno to Přerov. Direct trains operated by ČD, RegioJet, and Leo Express run to Olomouc in approximately 2 to 2.5 hours from major European hubs (Brno to Olomouc about 1.5 hours, Ostrava to Olomouc about 1 hour; times are approximate, verify connections before traveling). In Brno, you can walk from the main station to náměstí Svobody in 10 minutes maximum, and in Olomouc you can take a tram to Náměstí Republiky or U Sv. Mořice stops in about 10 minutes. Kroměříž is accessible by train with a transfer at Hulín or Kojetín (by car from Brno via the D1 motorway about 70 km). Valtice, Mikulov, and Znojmo are connected by line 246 from Břeclav. Lednice has a bus service from Břeclav (IDS JMK, about 10 km). Rožnov pod Radhoštěm has a station on the line from Valašské Meziříčí. To Štramberk, travel from Ostrava with a transfer in about 1 hour. For Jihlava, Třebíč, and Telč, check connections via IDOS.
Below we list parking options from official city websites as of October 25, 2026 (for Brno from the 2025 edition). Conditions change, so verify before traveling:
- Brno: The official website recommends Domini Park parking house (entrance from Husova), Velký Špalíček (from Dominikánská), and JD Parking at Janáček Theatre (from Moravské náměstí). Blue zone B around the center is free on weekends.
- Olomouc: The zone in the center (A €4/hour, B €1.60/hour, Mon–Fri 8:00 AM–6:00 PM, max. 2 hours) is free on weekends and holidays. Galerie Šantovka (~2,000 spaces, about 10 min walk to Horní náměstí) offers the first 1.5 hours free Mon–Fri and the first 3 hours free Sat–Sun, then €1.60/hour.

Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (simple monthly subscription) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).
