Náměstí Svobody (Freedom Square)

One of the most popular Christmas markets in Brno takes place at Náměstí Svobody, known locally as “Svoboďák”. Keep an eye out for the festive tram that runs through the square — it’s a real treat. Another highlight is the Winter Bar, where you can warm up with a wide selection of mulled wine, hot cider, and ginger drinks. The market also features a fantastic variety of culinary specialities.

With an incredible 62 stalls, you’ll find everything from traditional treats to handcrafted gifts for your loved ones. Live concerts take place twice a day, and every Saturday features performances by local folk groups. For the youngest visitors, a special children’s programme — including theatre shows — runs daily from 3:00 PM.

Dominikánské náměstí (Dominican Square)

Dominican Square is the perfect choice for families with children or grandchildren looking for a more relaxed Christmas atmosphere. You’ll find a cosier setup of eight stalls here, but the real showstopper is the magnificent Halouzek Wooden Nativity Scene — one of the largest handcrafted nativity scenes in Central Europe, featuring around a hundred figures. A charming Christmas village for kids and a children’s tram ride add to the festive magic.

Old Town Hall Courtyard

Head to the cosy Old Town Hall Courtyard for a foodie paradise showcasing the best of Brno’s gastronomy. If you’re after something a bit different from the usual Christmas fare, this is the spot for you. Nine stalls are run by nine of Brno’s top restaurants and eateries, so it’s well worth popping back more than once to sample everything on offer.

Zelný trh (Cabbage Market)

Advent at the Cabbage Market stays true to tradition, with a strong focus on arts and crafts — just as it has been in previous years. Live music fills the stage from Monday to Sunday, running from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. You’ll also catch performances by children and students from local nurseries, schools, and art academies.

Expect over 100 stalls at the Cabbage Market, brimming with handmade crafts including ceramics, sea-salt bath products, Christmas decorations, and unique pieces from blacksmiths, candlemakers, soap artisans, bell casters, and bookbinders. And of course, there’s no shortage of food and hot drinks to keep you fuelled.

Moravské náměstí (Moravian Square)

Advent at Moravian Square invites visitors to the area around the Jošt statue, where you’ll find stalls run by non-profit organisations — a lovely way to give back while you shop. There are also artisan craft stalls and a charming vintage carousel.

In the park on Moravian Square, you can hop on a Ferris wheel for panoramic views of festive Brno. The popular ice rink is back too, set up in the park where the water feature usually stands.

Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation

Don’t Overpay for Flights

Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.

Book Your Accommodation Smartly

The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.

Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).

Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.

Find the Best Experiences

Get Your Guide is a huge online marketplace where you can book guided walks, trips, skip-the-line tickets, tours, and much more. We always find some extra fun there!
