7 Brilliant Ways to Promote Your Blog for Free

You’ve got great content on your blog, but not enough people are reading it? Want to know how to attract thousands of readers without spending a single penny on advertising? Then you’re in the right place. Today, we’ll share seven proven blog promotion strategies that will boost your visibility in the digital space — completely free.

We’ve spent roughly €12 on promoting our own blogs over the past three years, so we definitely know what we’re talking about.

1) Share Your Blog in Facebook Groups

Find relevant Facebook groups in your niche. If you run a healthy cooking blog, look for groups about cooking and weight loss. Join groups for bloggers as well. Heads up! Always read the group rules carefully — some prohibit sharing links or promoting your own pages.

  • Never just drop a link. Always explain why you’re sharing and what people will learn from your post.
  • Be genuinely active in the groups. If someone asks about a topic you’ve covered on your blog, don’t just reply with a link. Take the time to write a thoughtful, helpful answer first, and then mention at the end that you’ve written about it in more detail on your blog.

2) Use Discussion Forums for More Than Just Link Building

In marketing, people often talk about solving your audience’s problems. Find relevant forums where people are discussing the topics you write about. Again: Never just post a link to your blog. That’s the most common mistake — your post will likely get deleted by a moderator anyway. Put real effort into your answer. Address people by name, give them the key facts, and then point them to your blog for more details.

Example of blog promotion through discussion forums

If you write in English, start being active on Quora and Reddit. It’ll take a fair amount of effort to answer questions at first, but if your answers are genuinely helpful, the returns come surprisingly fast.

Where Should You Post?

We can’t give you an exhaustive list of forums, but try searching for your topic plus “forum” or “discussion” in Google and you’ll find plenty of options.

Wedding photographers or makeup artists should definitely check out platforms like Hitched.co.uk or similar wedding community sites.

If your niche touches on anything related to parenting, lifestyle, or wellness, don’t overlook established communities like Mumsnet or Netmums. You’ll also find massive platforms for topics like gaming — think Reddit or dedicated Discord servers.

If you blog about travel, don’t forget about communities like the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree forum or TripAdvisor forums.

Some forums aren’t as active as they once were — people have migrated to Facebook groups — but they’re still a brilliant tool for driving quality traffic. Visitors who come from forum links tend to read your articles thoroughly.

3) Partner with Charities and Non-Profits

This is a well-established practice in the blogging world. Try to choose organisations that genuinely matter to you — don’t just look at what’s in it for your traffic numbers. If you run a parenting blog, consider supporting a charity that helps single mothers. Blog about fitness and weight loss? Get involved in raising awareness about eating disorders.

Charities and non-profits can help you build valuable backlinks, your blog gains an extra dimension of purpose, and you’ll feel good about it too 🙂

4) Collect Emails for Long-Term Growth

You might think email is a dead marketing tool, but the opposite is true. Studies consistently show it’s still the most effective way to communicate with your readers and let them know when you’ve published a new article or video. Building an email list is one of the most powerful blog promotion ideas you can invest time in.

The best-performing emails are surprisingly plain — no fancy graphics. Yes, completely without graphics, just like a normal email you’d write to a friend. Why?

  1. Emails with heavy graphics often end up in spam folders
  2. People are oversaturated with flashy newsletters
  3. A plain-text email feels far more personal

Pick a fun greeting for your community (for example, when people sign up for our crypto course, they get: “Hey Crypto Crew!”) and write your emails as if you’re chatting with a friend.

5) Connect with Other Platforms Through Guest Posting

Guest posting as a blog promotion strategy

Guest posting (or guest blogging) means writing content for other blogs and websites — and it’s one of the best tactics for building backlinks and boosting your blog’s authority.

Reach out to a blog, company, or online magazine in your niche and offer to write articles for them for free, on the condition that they include a link back to your blog. They get quality content, and you get free blog promotion. It’s a genuine win-win.

6) Roundup Posts: Get Other Bloggers to Share Your Content

Roundup post featuring multiple bloggers

This is a quick and easy way to create engaging articles while also gaining fantastic reach. Let other bloggers create content for you! Even better, if fellow bloggers contribute to your post, there’s a great chance they’ll share it on their own social media channels. Here’s how to do it:

Example: You Run a Cooking Blog

1) Come up with an article topic

Let’s say you blog about fitness cooking and summer is just around the corner. You decide to put together a post called: “Favourite Summer Recipes from Top Food Bloggers.”

2) Make a list of bloggers you’d like to feature

Don’t pick bloggers whose work you’ve never actually read. Familiarise yourself with their writing style and the kind of recipes they create.

3) Reach out with a clear brief

Message them on social media or via email. Explain that you’re preparing this article and featuring popular food bloggers. Be personal — tell them specifically why you’d love to include them. Don’t forget to mention that you’ll link back to their blog in the article.

  1. Set a character limit (200–300 characters)
  2. Provide a clear deadline and tell them where to send their contribution
  3. Ask for a profile photo
  4. Request a very short bio introducing their blog, which will appear under their photo
  5. Ask which links they’d like included alongside their contribution

7) Don’t Miss Any Opportunity to Mention Your Blog

And here’s one final tip. How many emails do you send every day? I send about 20–30. Sometimes even twice that. And I’m pretty sure I’m not even the worst offender 🙂

So if you haven’t added your blog URL to your email signature yet, do it right now.

Social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter (X) let you add a link to your profile bio. Make sure you take full advantage of that — every little bit of visibility helps when it comes to blog promotion.

Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation

Don’t Overpay for Flights

Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.

Book Your Accommodation Smartly

The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.

Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).

Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.

Find the Best Experiences

Get Your Guide is a huge online marketplace where you can book guided walks, trips, skip-the-line tickets, tours, and much more. We always find some extra fun there!
