1) The Travel Blog: Lucka and Lukáš from Loudavým krokem (so, us!)

This one naturally makes us happiest – our blog came up almost most often (well, probably just to make us feel good, but still!). I was a little afraid to include it here in case you’d throw stones at us, but after all your messages, here it is (and we’re certainly not going to deny it!).

Over the past year, we’ve written dozens of articles for you here on Loudavým krokem, and every month around 45–50 thousand people visit it. We truly appreciate it and hope to keep getting better with every single post.

What will you find on Loudavým krokem?

Travel itineraries and detailed budgets that show exactly how much each trip cost us. You’ll also find trip reports, tips on gear for camping, long-distance cycling, and classic holidays too.

We’ve travelled a big chunk of Europe on e-bikes, we’ve been to Uganda and Morocco, we spent three months travelling across Canada (where we also lived for a year) and the USA, we visited Alaska, and we camped for two weeks in Hawaii. On the blog you’ll find tips for trips around the Czech Republic as well as weekends in Europe.

From 2019 onwards we’ll be travelling full-time, so you can definitely look forward to plenty more articles!

2) Honza from Cestování s fotografem (Travelling with a Photographer)

Honza's blog – Travelling with a Photographer
Honza’s blog – Travelling with a Photographer

One of my favourite blogs about Italy. Honza not only takes gorgeous photos, but his posts are packed with valuable advice – whether you’re heading off to ski or planning a summer of climbing in the Dolomites. On his blog you’ll find tips for Portugal, Italy, Austria, Spain, Dubai, Washington, Florida, and even Thailand.

3) Markéta and Michal from Eagles na cestách

Dumpster Diving – Eagles na cestách
Dumpster Diving – Eagles na cestách

Markéta and Michal travelled through 22 countries together in a campervan they named Vítek. For me, their legendary piece is the article about Dumpster Diving in Norway. I don’t know many people who talk openly about this topic (although I do know folks who practised it in Norway).

So what is Dumpster Diving?

Essentially, it’s about going through supermarket bins where they throw away food that isn’t aesthetically perfect, has passed its best-before date (though there’s often nothing wrong with it), or has damaged packaging. Thanks to dumpster diving, they managed to live in Norway almost for free. Read more over on their blog.

4) Anetka from Ejnets

Anetka from ejnets.com

Anetka may already be back in Europe, but a while ago she travelled around South America and wrote about it on her blog. If you’re planning a trip to Bolivia, Chile, or Peru, you should take a look at her site. Especially if you’re planning to head to Machu Picchu and don’t want it to cost you a fortune.

On her blog you’ll also learn what it’s like to volunteer in Peru. On top of that, Anetka also lived in Portugal for a year, so if you’re heading to Lisbon, she’s a brilliant source of the best information.

5) Radka and Ivar from Realcamplife

Radka and Ivar live in Trondheim, Norway, where they work as personal assistants for people with disabilities. They both love to travel and, as the name of their blog suggests, their favourite way to do it is under canvas. They’re among those crazy enough to go camping even in Iceland.

On their blog you’ll learn about life in Norway – for example, what Christmas is like there and the Norwegians’ obsession with the Czech fairy-tale film “Three Wishes for Cinderella” (a beloved festive classic across Central Europe), or about picking strawberries. They’ll show you how to do Oman without a tour operator, or where to head in Ireland if you love Game of Thrones.

They’re true specialists in the cold Nordic countries.

6) Bára, aka Fijalka

Fijalka travel blog

Bára’s blog is one of those that not only offers great information but is also brilliantly structured and full of stunning photos.

Her blog has excellent information about Slovenia, or about how she became a farmhand in Finland. But my favourite article on her blog is the one about the most beautiful places in New Zealand. Her photos are, in a word, breathtaking and they’ll have you reaching for your wallet to book a flight somewhere immediately.

7) Lucie from Holka s bucket listem (Girl with a Bucket List)

Girl with a Bucket List travel blog

Lucie put together a bucket list you can read on her blog, and she’s now ticking it off one item at a time. One of those goals was to learn English, go to Australia, and also complete the PCT. That’s a trail more than 4,000 km long, stretching from Mexico to Canada.

Most of her blog tells the story of the PCT and her experiences along it. You’ll also find tips there on how to pack for the PCT, so if you’re up for this kind of madness, head on over to her blog!

8) Teru Menclová

Teru is an amazing photographer, so you have to visit her blog for the photos alone. I sometimes catch myself going back to her pictures again and again.

On her blog you’ll also find tips for places all over the world. Whether you’re off to Edinburgh or the Lofoten Islands, Teru’s blog will definitely get you in the mood.

9) Terezka and Primož from Czick on the Road

Czick on the Road blog
Czick on the Road blog

One of those frequently recommended blogs that I had no idea about for a long time. Czech Terezka and Slovenian Primož decided in 2017 to quit their jobs, get rid of all their belongings, and – like so many others – become digital nomads.

Head over to their blog especially if you’re interested in South America. Very few blogs have articles about Paraguay under their belt. On their site you’ll learn why we hear so little about this country. But what will probably grab you even more is the number of articles from Brazil. You can join them in Rio de Janeiro, find out what it’s like to work on a Brazilian farm, or take inspiration from their trip to the Iguazu Falls. On the site they also have tips for travelling around Peru, Bolivia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Spain.

10) Andrejka from Anniessecrets

Annie's Secrets blog

Andrejka moved to the Lofoten Islands, where she lives with her partner Robert, who’s a brilliant photographer (so there’s no shortage of stunning shots of Norway on Andrejka’s blog). That’s why in 2019 you can expect plenty of posts from Norway on her blog. Personally, the story that grabbed me most was the one about how she and her family one day decided to drive a van up to the Lofotens for New Year’s Eve in the dead of winter.

Pohled za hranice travel blog

Martina has built up quite a collection of posts on her blog Pohled za hranice. You’ll find tips for just about every country in Europe. What’s more, she’s one of those who owns a campervan, so if you’re planning to convert a van into a home on wheels, you’ll find loads of inspiration on Martina’s blog.

For several years they first travelled in a VW Caddy they fitted out themselves. Now they travel in a Fiat Ducato campervan with a KRS Active Line conversion.

On Martina’s blog you’ll also learn what it’s like to travel in a van while pregnant and what van life is like with a small child.

One of the longest-running blogs in the Czech Republic. Katka has been diligently keeping her blog since 2013 and still fills it with great travel tips. That’s why you’ll find an incredible amount of information here, for example about New Zealand, Japan, Sri Lanka, England, Norway, or Madeira.

Last year she also added some interesting articles about trekking in Nepal. So if you’re planning to tackle Annapurna, you know exactly which blog to check out!

Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation

Don’t Overpay for Flights

Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.

Book Your Accommodation Smartly

The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.

Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).

Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.

Find the Best Experiences

Get Your Guide is a huge online marketplace where you can book guided walks, trips, skip-the-line tickets, tours, and much more. We always find some extra fun there!
