Beneš Square bring an unforgettable atmosphere to the city centre that you’ll simply fall in love with. Liberec Christmas Markets: Tree Lighting Ceremony
The festive start of Advent takes place on Sunday, 23 November, when a majestic Christmas tree is lit in front of Liberec’s town hall – a beautiful fir decorated with Herrnhut stars, strings of lights, and other decorations.

Liberec Christmas Markets: When and Where
This year, the Christmas markets in Liberec run from 23 November to 23 December 2025 on Dr. E. Beneš Square. The markets are open daily from 10:00 to 19:00, with the last day closing at 15:00.
Visitors can enjoy the unique Fial mechanical nativity scene, an Advent observation wheel, and a charming Advent train running between the squares. In total, you’ll find around 40 stalls full of Christmas treats, gifts, and handmade crafts. A few additional stalls also pop up on nearby Soukenné náměstí (Cloth Square), where more festive surprises await.
What to Try
Every food lover will find something to enjoy at the Liberec Christmas markets. Be sure not to miss the fragrant mulled wine or homemade punch to warm you up nicely. Among the traditional treats, we recommend crispy trdelník (chimney cake), gingerbread, or delicious roasted chestnuts.
For savoury food fans, there are grilled sausages, potato pancakes, and cheese specialities. And if you fancy something a bit more unique, try the handmade pralines or hot chocolate – the perfect accompaniment to a winter evening beneath the Christmas tree.

Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation
Don’t Overpay for Flights
Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.
Book Your Accommodation Smartly
The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.
Don’t Forget Travel Insurance
Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.
Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).
Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.
