Do you long for an escape from everyday life, but the Czech landscape appeals to you more than exotic air travel? A holiday in the Czech Republic is far from boring; you just need to choose the right place and a temporary roof over your head. In this guide, Czech Republic: Best Weekend Getaway Accommodations, we’ll focus on domestic accommodation options where you can recharge with nature and pampering treatments.
To the Edge of the Forest, for History, or for Wellness?
Some prefer to break away from their routine with a mountain hike or a castle visit, while others enjoy a less active holiday, perhaps even with daily electronics in hand. Local accommodations offer maximum comfort and additional services, but in those focused on an authentic natural experience, you’ll likely have to sacrifice a bit of comfort.
Types of Accommodation in the Czech Republic
In addition to an interesting holiday location, choose the type of facility that best meets your accommodation expectations.
Hotels, Guesthouses
Classic hotels and less opulent guesthouses can be found in every major city. You can often dine in their hotel restaurants, choose from various relaxation procedures, or use other additional services. They are often close to tourist attractions, so everything will be within easy reach.
Private Accommodation Options
Individuals, couples, and smaller groups of travelers can also choose from private accommodations. These hosts often try to differentiate themselves, giving you a unique opportunity to enjoy your holiday in original short-term housing. Today, you can stay in a castle, a brewery, or other historic buildings, on a ranch, a houseboat, a hunting stand, in a yurt, a teepee, a barrel, a caravan, a military bunker, a tiny house, or a treehouse.
Camping
Official campsites usually operate during the season and offer cabins and pitches for caravans, motorhomes, or tents for tourist stays. However, this doesn’t automatically mean uncomfortable beds and a lack of privacy – are you familiar with glamping, luxurious camping? Lovers of retro memories or more nature-oriented travelers will certainly find campsites where time has stood still.
On your Own
Even if you bravely want to go wild camping and sleep under a tent, a tarp, or directly under the stars, don’t forget the basic rules: in the Czech Republic, multi-day camping is only allowed in designated areas, but you can spend a single night anywhere – after a one-time overnight stay, no traces must be left behind. In national parks, protected landscape areas, and national nature reserves, both camping and pitching tents are strictly forbidden, with fines amounting to several thousands.
Where Will You Go to Recharge your Batteries?
There are many accommodation options for a holiday in the Czech Republic, and deciding might not be easy. Each option has “something to offer” and will suit a different type of traveler. Which one will you prefer?
Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation
Don’t Overpay for Flights
Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.
Book Your Accommodation Smartly
The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.
Don’t Forget Travel Insurance
Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.
Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).
Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.
