Dominican Square is an ideal choice for families with children who want to experience a more relaxed Brno Christmas atmosphere. You’ll find a cosier selection of eight stalls here, but the main highlight is the magnificent Halouzka Wooden Nativity Scene – one of the largest handcrafted nativity scenes in Central Europe, featuring around a hundred figures. The festive atmosphere is complemented by a Christmas village for children and a children’s tram ride.

Old Town Hall Courtyard

Visit the foodie paradise in the charming Old Town Hall Courtyard, where you’ll find the best of Brno’s gastronomy. If you’re looking for unusual Christmas delicacies, this spot definitely won’t disappoint. Nine stalls showcase nine of Brno’s top restaurants and food establishments, so it’s well worth coming back multiple times to sample all their specialities.

Zelný trh (Cabbage Market)

Advent at the Cabbage Market will be traditional and craft-focused, just like in previous years. A live music programme takes place on the stage from Monday to Sunday, always from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Performances also feature children and pupils from nurseries, primary schools and art schools.

At the Cabbage Market, you can look forward to more than 100 stalls offering a rich selection of artisan crafts, including ceramics, sea salt bath products, Christmas decorations, as well as original works by blacksmiths, candlemakers, soap makers, bell founders and bookbinders. Naturally, there’s plenty of food and drink on offer too, with warm beverages and delicious meals.

Advent on Moravian Square invites visitors to the area around the Jošt statue, where you’ll find stalls run by non-profit organisations – a great opportunity to support a good cause. There are also artisan craftspeople with handmade products and a historical carousel.

In the park at Moravian Square, you can take a ride on the observation wheel, and the popular ice rink is back too, located in the park area where the water feature usually stands.

Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation

Don’t Overpay for Flights

Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.

Book Your Accommodation Smartly

The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.

Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).

Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.
