Main Square

The largest and most renowned Christmas market in Bratislava is on Main Square (Hlavné námestie), which becomes the heart of the city’s festive celebrations during Advent. Visitors can sample beloved Slovak specialities such as fragrant lokše (potato flatbreads), kapustnica (cabbage soup) and various types of gingerbread. Among the many things to do in Bratislava during the festive season, sampling these traditional treats is a must.

In the centre of the square stands the Christmas tree, which will be ceremonially lit on 28 November 2025. Every day features a programme of cultural performances, from folk ensembles to Christmas concerts and carols.

Close to the Main Square you’ll find a smaller but charming market on Franciscan Square. This market is especially popular for its unique handcrafted goods and traditional Slovak crafts. At the stalls you can admire and buy handmade jewellery, ceramics, wooden toys and other gifts – perfect for anyone who appreciates original souvenirs.

For children, there are plenty of activities – from Christmas craft workshops to various performances that will entertain the whole family.

Primate’s Square

Primate’s Square, known for its stunning architecture and the majestic Primate’s Palace, is another venue for the Christmas markets. The square transforms into a romantic festive marketplace full of decorations, twinkling lights and cosy stalls, with a somewhat quieter atmosphere than the main market.

The stalls here generally offer a wide selection of Christmas decorations, artisan products and treats. Smaller cultural events also take place on this square throughout the season.

Incheba Expo Bratislava

The traditional Christmas market at Incheba Expo Bratislava celebrates its 35th edition this year. This market offers a vast number of stalls – last year there were over 300 exhibitors. Visitors can look forward to a rich selection of Christmas decorations, glass ornaments, ceramics and handmade gifts, as well as a wide range of non-festive goods. You’ll find beautiful jewellery, books, electronics, clothing and much more.

Gourmet specialities are also a highlight. From traditional Christmas dishes to new culinary experiences brought by local and international vendors, there’s something for every palate.

Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation

Don’t Overpay for Flights

Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.

Book Your Accommodation Smartly

The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.

Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.

Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).

Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.

Find the Best Experiences

Get Your Guide is a huge online marketplace where you can book guided walks, trips, skip-the-line tickets, tours, and much more. We always find some extra fun there!
