Le matin, quand nous sommes partis chercher les rhinoc\u00e9ros au Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, j&rsquo;\u00e9crivais d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans ma t\u00eate un article sur ce paradis vert qu&rsquo;est l&rsquo;<strong>Ouganda<\/strong>. Mais ensuite, j&rsquo;ai d\u00e9couvert l&rsquo;autre visage de l&rsquo;Afrique. Les Ougandais paient 5 dollars par jour, nous 40 dollars par personne, plus cinq dollars suppl\u00e9mentaires pour la voiture. Et si vous d\u00e9passez les 24 heures, on vous refacture l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e. Nous roulons lentement, la route est vraiment effroyable et le trajet dure une heure et demie. Partout des singes bondissent et nous n&rsquo;avons aucune raison d&rsquo;aller vite. Soudain, une camionnette blanche nous double \u00e0 toute allure : ce sont des touristes avec un chauffeur ougandais. Rares sont ceux qui voyagent en autonomie comme nous. Conduire ici est un enfer, c&rsquo;est trou sur trou, et en cette saison des pluies s&rsquo;y ajoutent des fondri\u00e8res boueuses, parfois carr\u00e9ment inond\u00e9es. La plupart des voyageurs optent donc pour un chauffeur local. C&rsquo;est d&rsquo;ailleurs l&rsquo;un des conseils qu&rsquo;on vous donne avant de partir en Ouganda. Pendant un instant, je ne comprends pas ce qui se passe. Nous nous arr\u00eatons. Devant nous, une camionnette renvers\u00e9e, vitres bris\u00e9es. Du sang luit dans les \u00e9clats de verre. Un homme chauve se tient la t\u00eate, d&rsquo;o\u00f9 s&rsquo;\u00e9coulent des filets rouges, et titube sans but. Quelqu&rsquo;un g\u00eet au sol dans une mare de sang. Je remarque le chauffeur ougandais, assis tranquillement un peu plus loin dans l&rsquo;herbe, m\u00e2chonnant un brin d&rsquo;herbe, pendant que les moins bless\u00e9s tentent de porter secours \u00e0 la femme \u00e9tendue. Ils courent vers nous. Ils n&rsquo;ont pas de r\u00e9seau pour appeler \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide. Nous ne pouvons pas la charger, de peur de la blesser davantage. Nous faisons rapidement demi-tour, avan\u00e7ons de quelques m\u00e8tres et captons enfin un peu de r\u00e9seau. Nous appelons le 911. Rien. Longtemps, rien. Finalement, quelqu&rsquo;un d\u00e9croche. Et raccroche aussit\u00f4t. Appelez un m\u00e9decin ou une ambulance. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nous nous adressons au ranger, mais il nous regarde l&rsquo;air ailleurs, comme s&rsquo;il pensait \u00e0 tout autre chose. Nous r\u00e9p\u00e9tons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00ab L&rsquo;accident d&rsquo;hier ? \u00bb lance dans ce calme insupportable une militaire qui vient d&rsquo;arriver. Je la fixe, les yeux \u00e9carquill\u00e9s, et nous r\u00e9p\u00e9tons encore. \u00ab Non, l&rsquo;accident vient d&rsquo;arriver ! C&rsquo;est grave \u00bb, r\u00e9fl\u00e9chit la militaire. Personne ne fait rien. Nous r\u00e9p\u00e9tons cent fois, jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 ce que le ranger Donald d\u00e9clare : \u00ab Mais il n&rsquo;y a sans doute personne dans les environs \u00e0 qui t\u00e9l\u00e9phoner. \u00bb Il hausse les \u00e9paules et part chercher le registre des visiteurs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cette situation absurde dure une heure. D&rsquo;abord, ils cherchent dans le registre qui c&rsquo;\u00e9tait et d\u00e9battent pour savoir s&rsquo;ils s&rsquo;en souviennent. Ce n&rsquo;est qu&rsquo;au bout d&rsquo;une demi-heure qu&rsquo;ils appellent les secours. Et il nous fallait rester un jour de plus. Et c&rsquo;est l\u00e0 qu&rsquo;on revient au d\u00e9but. Une fois les 24 heures d\u00e9pass\u00e9es, il faut repayer les frais d&rsquo;entr\u00e9e. Nous allons les voir pour qu&rsquo;ils modifient la date d&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e \u2014 ils ne vont quand m\u00eame pas nous faire payer 85 dollars parce qu&rsquo;on a aid\u00e9 \u00e0 g\u00e9rer un accident de voiture dans leur parc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00ab Impossible de le modifier. C&rsquo;est un document officiel. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nous regardons ce bout de papier griffonn\u00e9 \u00e0 la main, cherchant \u00e0 savoir s&rsquo;ils plaisantent. Il n&rsquo;existe aucune autre trace que ce morceau de papier arrach\u00e9 d&rsquo;un carnet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00ab Alors d\u00e9chirez-le et faites-en un nouveau. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00ab Impossible, c&rsquo;est un document officiel. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nous avons insist\u00e9 un moment, mais pour eux l&rsquo;affaire \u00e9tait close. Pas pour moi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00ab Vous n&rsquo;allez quand m\u00eame pas nous faire payer 85 dollars de plus alors qu&rsquo;on a port\u00e9 secours lors d&rsquo;un accident dans votre parc, caus\u00e9 par un chauffeur ougandais. \u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00ab Mais vous n&rsquo;\u00e9tiez pas dans cet accident \u00bb, r\u00e9pond Donald. Je le fixe. Et je commence \u00e0 voir rouge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00ab Donc vous allez nous punir d&rsquo;avoir aid\u00e9 des gens ? Et maintenant on doit payer 85 dollars pour une journ\u00e9e de plus ? \u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nous nous disputons avec eux pendant 2 heures. Alors je leur ai dit ce que je pensais d&rsquo;eux et de leur syst\u00e8me, et nous sommes partis dans le parc. Deux heures plus tard, nous nous disputions encore avec son sup\u00e9rieur. Au moins un accident s&rsquo;y produit chaque jour, et y rouler plus vite que de raison semble \u00eatre une folie pure. Dans cet enfer t\u00e9n\u00e9breux, \u00e0 travers les pistes, nous roulons encore trois heures et demie jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 la ville de Hoima. Nous avan\u00e7ons au pas. Absolument tout nous effraie. Sinon, on aurait sans doute roul\u00e9 toute la nuit jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 Fort Portal, o\u00f9 on comptait passer la nuit \u00e0 l&rsquo;origine. Le Golden Summit Hotel de Hoima co\u00fbte trois fois rien et affiche la meilleure note des environs. D&rsquo;abord, on a d\u00e9couvert que l&rsquo;adresse sur Google \u00e9tait fausse et on n&rsquo;a pas pu trouver l&rsquo;h\u00f4tel pendant une heure ; puis \u00e7a a continu\u00e9 avec une r\u00e9ception qui ne savait m\u00eame pas o\u00f9 se trouvait son propre restaurant (\u00ab Hum, je pense que si vous allez par l\u00e0, au coin, vous le trouverez. \u00bb) ; et le coup de gr\u00e2ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 l&rsquo;\u00e9quipement de la chambre, dont des morceaux nous restaient dans la main. Que le Wi-Fi ne marche pas ne pouvait plus nous d\u00e9stabiliser, mais les fourmis dans le petit-d\u00e9jeuner, \u00e7a, on ne s&rsquo;y attendait vraiment pas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Comme si l&rsquo;Ouganda ne savait pas quelle impression il voulait laisser en nous.
