glacial lake with floating crags is considered one of the most interesting and beautiful phenomena in Iceland. Until 60 years ago, there was a thirty-metre high glacier on this spot.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-53000\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Jokulsarlon_ledovcove_jezero.jpg\" alt=\"Glacial lake in Iceland\" class=\"wp-image-53000\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Glacial lake in Iceland<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<p>The <strong>glacier is melting fast (the lake has increased in size four times since the 1970s) and it is already clear that soon there will be no lake<\/strong>, but the largest fjord in Iceland. You&#8217;ll find it in the south of Iceland near Sk\u00f3gar, and if you wait a while, you&#8217;ll probably be rewarded with a rainbow. The weather in Iceland changes really fast, we experienced sun, rain, wind and hail during our visit to the waterfall. And we didn&#8217;t even spend half an hour with him.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-53019\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Skogafoss.jpg\" alt=\"Rainbow at Sk&#xF3;gafoss waterfall\" class=\"wp-image-53019\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Rainbow at Sk\u00f3gafoss<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<p>The magical setting of <strong>Sk\u00f3gafoss<\/strong> waterfall is also used by filmmakers, for example in the movie Thor: The Dark World and it appeared in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?time_continue=9&amp;v=rPNqWB4WJ_s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vikings<\/a> series \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prometheus_Falls_Detifoss\"><\/span>Prometheus Falls: Detifoss<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>Speaking of film locations in Iceland, you&#8217;ll probably recognise Detifoss from the 2012 film <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OB8cop0TLR0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prometheus<\/a>. This mighty waterfall, which is also known for pouring over you before you even see it, can be found in the M\u00fdvatn area of northern Iceland on the J\u00f6kuls\u00e1 \u00e1 Fj\u00f6llum River.  <strong>Unless you rent a quad bike, we don&#8217;t recommend riding it.  <\/strong>The road is full of potholes, there are frequent snow closures, and it is notorious for people puncturing bikes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-53007\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Dettifoss.jpg\" alt=\"If the wind blows, it&#039;ll be pouring in the parking lot.\" class=\"wp-image-53007\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">If the wind blows, you&#8217;ll be pouring in the parking lot.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Little_Icelandic_Yellowstone_The_Ratcatcher\"><\/span>Little Icelandic Yellowstone: The Ratcatcher<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>A little Yellowstone in Iceland, at least that&#8217;s how Lukas would explain it. In this geothermal area, you can walk <strong>along a well-maintained path past bubbling mud pools and impressive fissures that leak foul-smelling steam<\/strong>. These fissures are called solfatara, a type of fumarole, which is an extinct volcanic crater. As you can read on wikipedia, &#8220;Solfatar vapours differ from fumarole vapours mainly by their significantly higher sulphate and elemental sulphur contents.&#8221;<strong> If you want to put it in layman&#8217;s terms, it just steams, smells like eggs and looks like it&#8217;s from another planet!<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-53018\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"1500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Krysuvik.jpg\" alt=\"Geothermal area Kr&#xFD;suv&#xED;k\" class=\"wp-image-53018\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Geothermal area Kr\u00fdsuv\u00edk<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Thingvellir_National_Park\"><\/span>Thingvellir National Park<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>The national park, located in the southwest of Iceland, is likely to be one of your first stops. We were no exception.  <strong>Located by the fjord of the same name, its main attraction is a colourful walkway with a wooden church.  <\/strong>The town has only 700 inhabitants, but the place is surrounded by beautiful mountains full of waterfalls. Geysir was historically the first gushing hot water spring recorded in written records. It is incredible that as early as 1294, reports of this natural phenomenon were circulating around Europe.
