Elafonisi beach in Crete Greece has genuine pink sand, but don’t expect an entirely pink world. In photos, the colour is sometimes so intense that you imagine strawberry ice cream spilled along the shore, while in person you might find only a faint strip by the water. The turquoise lagoon and pale sand are beautiful even without a colour filter, though. And they’re worth setting aside a proper beach day for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elafonisi lies in southwestern Crete and works best as a day trip from the western part of the island.<\/strong> When choosing how to get there, driving time and your options for getting back matter more than how close the beach looks on a map.
