When choosing where to stay in Fez Morocco, how much you enjoy your visit has less to do with the stars above the entrance than with the distance to the historic gate<\/strong> where your taxi drops you off, and how far you then have to drag your suitcases. The medina is the old town within the city walls, while a riad is a traditional house with an internal courtyard. Cars and taxis cannot enter the medina, so they drop you off at gates or squares. Many visitors take a taxi to the Blue Gate even though their riad is elsewhere, then haul their luggage through the alleyways. That is why it is worth staying right by a gate or choosing a hotel in the new town instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
