Most of us know Zagreb, the Croatian capital, only as a sign on the highway when we rush to the coast with the family in summer. But that’s a real shame, because 2026 is truly an ideal time to visit<\/strong>, as the city has finally recovered from the devastating earthquake and returned to its full glory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You’ll find incredibly cheap public transport here, a beautiful historic center full of greenery, and the best Christmas markets in Europe<\/strong> (at least according to several rankings I’ve seen). So come with me to discover why this year it’s worth exiting the highway and giving this Balkan metropolis at least one long weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve prepared 20 specific tips on landmarks and experiences<\/strong> that would be a sin to miss. I’ll advise you where to leave your car so you don’t pay unnecessarily much, and I’ll add personal recommendations for great caf\u00e9s and vegetarian restaurants in the center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
