Sandstone towers soaring high into the sky, narrow gorges full of shadows, and a geological history stretching back an impressive hundred million years. The Prachov Rocks (Prachovsk\u00e9 sk\u00e1ly) are one of the most famous nature reserves<\/strong> in the Bohemian Paradise (\u010cesk\u00fd r\u00e1j) protected landscape area<\/a>, and they hold an absolutely irreplaceable spot on any hiker’s map. Lying less than seven kilometres from the town of Ji\u010d\u00edn, they offer a fascinating look at a unique rock town that formed from sediments deposited on the floor of a shallow Cretaceous sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You might be surprised to learn that this natural gem is currently in private ownership<\/strong>, with the grounds belonging to three women from the Schlik family. Sisters Margareta Posp\u00edchalov\u00e1 and Ilona Schlikov\u00e1, together with their cousin Helena Zaj\u00ed\u010dkov\u00e1, reclaimed the estate through restitution in 1996, and to this day they take care of keeping the trails safe and the viewpoints carefully maintained. That is exactly why an entrance fee has been charged here for over fifty years \u2014 money that goes directly toward preserving the visitor infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
