Sn\u011b\u017eka in the Czech Republic stands at 1,603.3 metres and is the highest mountain in the country, but there’s one juicy detail: the actual summit lies just across the border, on the Polish side<\/strong>. The highest point on Czech territory is about ten centimetres lower and you’ll find it just a short step away. The average annual temperature up here is a mere 0.2 \u00b0C, so at times you’ll feel more like you’re on an expedition beyond the Arctic Circle than on an easy-going day trip in the Krkono\u0161e Mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though it’s one of the most popular hiking destinations around, plenty of people underestimate the visit and head up in summer trainers and a light sweater<\/strong>. The mountain rescue service could talk for hours about cases like these, because the weather here can change from one minute to the next and the wind record stands at 223 kilometres per hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
