Louny, in the Czech Republic, is one of those underrated late-Gothic gems of north-western Bohemia that most people simply whizz past on the nearby motorway without a second thought. That’s a real shame, because this historic royal town on the River Oh\u0159e hides a breathtaking church by the famous architect Benedikt Rejt \u2014 and on top of that, it makes the perfect base for trips into the volcanic hills of the \u010cesk\u00e9 st\u0159edoho\u0159\u00ed (Central Bohemian Uplands).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We come here often, because Luk\u00e1\u0161 grew up in the area. So today I’ll show you, from a local’s point of view, what to see in Louny<\/strong>, where to grab a specialty coffee, and why it’s worth heading up the nearby hill of Obl\u00edk for sunset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m sure this town of around eighteen thousand people will pleasantly surprise you with its laid-back vibe, rich history, and above all by just how close you are here to gorgeous countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
