TL;DR<\/strong>Meteora<\/strong> is a UNESCO-listed complex of six working monasteries dating back to the 14th century, perched on sandstone pillars above the town of Kalambaka in central Greece \u2014 the most visited are Great Meteoron<\/strong>, Varlaam<\/strong> and Roussanou<\/strong>. Entry to each monastery costs around 3 euros (roughly 75 K\u010d), opening hours and closing days vary from one to the next, and there’s a strict dress code: shoulders covered, long trousers or a skirt. It’s about a 4-hour drive from Athens, or 4 to 5 hours by train.
