Who&#8217;d set off on a long tour without tools for bike repairs? <strong>The trick is that we specifically recommend a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bike-eshop.cz\/multiklice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CYCLING multi-tool<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t make the same mistake we did \u2014 leave all those separate screwdrivers, Allen keys, and spanners at home.<\/strong> Get yourself a compact cycling multi-tool and you won&#8217;t need anything else. Don&#8217;t forget a mini pump, at least two puncture repair kits (the glue in one might dry out), a spare chain, a spare inner tube, and if you&#8217;re confident enough, a brake bleed kit. We&#8217;d also count a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rankito.cz\/nejlepsi-zamky-na-kolo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bike lock<\/a> as essential cycling gear \u2014 besides its main purpose, it comes in handy for all sorts of other tasks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54239 hoverZoomLink\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/cyklisticke-naradi.jpg\" alt=\"Cycling multi-tool for long-distance touring\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<p><em>Extra tip: Check that your bike doesn&#8217;t have any non-standard nut bolts. This is particularly common on e-bikes, where you may need a special wrench to remove the rear wheel.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Proper_Cycling_Clothing\"><\/span><strong>2) Proper Cycling Clothing<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Padded_Cycling_Shorts\"><\/span><strong>Padded Cycling Shorts<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Everyone told us the first three days would be the worst because of saddle soreness. Our advice? <strong>Invest in <a class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"P\u00e1nsk\u00e9 cyklokra\u0165asy\" href=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/doporucujeme\/panske-cyklokratasy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">padded cycling shorts<\/a> and you might avoid the pain altogether.<\/strong> Sure, plenty of seasoned cyclists will tell you that you&#8217;ll get used to it even without special shorts. But\u2026 why suffer unnecessarily?<\/p>\n<p>We got ourselves a pair and can honestly say we had no major issues. Any mild chafing we treated with beeswax cream, and by morning the soreness was gone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/cyklisticke-kratasy.png\" alt=\"Padded cycling shorts\" width=\"300\" height=\"390\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Silver-Infused_Clothing\"><\/span><strong>Silver-Infused Clothing<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We changed our socks once every three to four days. That might sound shocking given that we were cycling 10 hours a day in temperatures of 34\u201338\u00b0C.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thanks to the silver fibres woven into our jerseys, T-shirts, and underwear, we didn&#8217;t start smelling awful on day one.<\/strong> The silver took care of most sweat-causing bacteria, and the next day the clothes smelled almost freshly laundered \u2014 provided they dried properly overnight.<\/p>\n<p><span data-sheets-formula-bar-text-style=\"font-size:13px;color:#1155cc;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:underline;font-family:'Arial';font-style:normal;text-decoration-skip-ink:none;\">TIP: Don&#8217;t forget to round out your outfit with <\/span><a class=\"waffle-rich-text-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.topontrail.cz\/news\/boty-na-horske-kolo-ktere-zvladnou-vsechno\" data-sheets-formula-bar-text-link=\"https:\/\/www.topontrail.cz\/news\/boty-na-horske-kolo-ktere-zvladnou-vsechno\" data-sheets-formula-bar-text-style=\"font-size:13px;color:#1155cc;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:underline;font-family:&#039;&#039;Arial&#039;&#039;;font-style:normal;text-decoration-skip-ink:none;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Five Ten mountain bike shoes<\/a><span data-sheets-formula-bar-text-style=\"font-size:13px;color:#1155cc;font-weight:normal;text-decoration:underline;font-family:'Arial';font-style:normal;text-decoration-skip-ink:none;\"> \u2014 they can handle just about anything.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Beeswax_Cream_for_Saddle_Soreness\"><\/span><strong>3) Beeswax Cream for Saddle Soreness<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Saddle soreness is every beginner cyclist&#8217;s biggest fear. We carried <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.drpopov.cz\/produkt\/propolisova-mast-s-medem-100-ml\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">beeswax balm<\/a><\/strong> with us and applied it to any mild chafing. It worked like a charm every time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-54240\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/propolisova-mast.png\" alt=\"Propolis balm for saddle soreness from cycling\" width=\"250\" height=\"213\" title=\"\"><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Touring_in_Europe_Dont_Overpack_on_Food\"><\/span><strong>4) Touring in Europe? Don&#8217;t Overpack on Food<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the most common pieces of advice cyclists get is &#8220;pack loads of food \u2014 you&#8217;ll be starving!&#8221; While that might apply to remote wilderness trails, it&#8217;s overkill for a European tour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you&#8217;re riding through Europe, forget about tins, dehydrated meal pouches, and similar bulk.<\/strong> You&#8217;ll find a supermarket or a restaurant around every corner, and your legs will thank you for those saved kilograms.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t mind popping into a shop every other day (we certainly didn&#8217;t), just carry food for one to two days. The exception is porridge ingredients for breakfast \u2014 we always kept plenty of those on hand.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Spices\"><\/span><strong>5) Spices<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>One thing you should definitely pack is a basic spice kit<\/strong> \u2014 that is, if you plan on cooking along the way. Salt, pepper, and a vegetable stock cube combined with fresh veg can put a smile on any tired cyclist&#8217;s face.<\/p>\n<p>A few small sachets of spices weigh next to nothing, and they can be surprisingly pricey abroad.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Cycling_First_Aid_Kit\"><\/span><strong>6) Cycling First Aid Kit<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Drivers are required to carry a first aid kit, but what about cyclists? We strongly recommend one. You&#8217;re just one tumble away from scrapes, bruises, or an open wound \u2014 and trust us, you can fall off your bike even when you&#8217;re not riding it. We even used them for occasional work calls mid-ride.<\/p>\n<p>We thought we&#8217;d get good use out of the walkie-talkie feature too, but it turned out to be fairly useless \u2014 it requires a constant internet connection.
