The <strong>coastal location<\/strong> acts as a natural air conditioner, so while inland Andalusian cities like Seville or C\u00f3rdoba regularly hit a brutal 40 \u00b0C in summer, M\u00e1laga keeps things at a far more bearable 31\u201332 \u00b0C thanks to its refreshing sea breeze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for rain, the city receives only around 530\u2013600 millimetres per year, and nearly all of it falls during the winter half of the year \u2014 so in July or August you can safely leave the umbrella at home. When it does rain in winter, it&#8217;s rarely the sort of endless grey drizzle we&#8217;re so familiar with in the UK. Instead, you&#8217;ll get a short, sharp downpour followed by blue skies, and before you know it you&#8217;re back outside enjoying another coffee on a sunny terrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_to_Visit_Malaga_by_Holiday_Type\"><\/span>When to Visit M\u00e1laga by Holiday Type<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We all want different things from a trip, so the ideal time for your visit depends largely on whether you want to spend all day lounging on the beach, exploring historical landmarks, or simply soaking up the local atmosphere over a plate of delicious vegetable tapas drizzled with plenty of olive oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Best_Time_for_Swimming_in_the_Sea\"><\/span>Best Time for Swimming in the Sea<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If splashing around in the Mediterranean is your top priority, aim for <strong>June to October, when the sea temperature comfortably stays above 20 \u00b0C<\/strong>. The absolute warmest water comes in August \u2014 a lovely 23\u201324 \u00b0C \u2014 but you&#8217;ll have to accept that the beaches will be absolutely packed with both locals and tourists, and you might feel like sardines on the sand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Luk\u00e1\u0161 and I have grown to love what we think of as the sweet spot: <strong>late September and early October<\/strong>. The sea is still beautifully warm from the long summer at 20\u201322 \u00b0C, the air sits at a perfect 25\u201328 \u00b0C, and you get far more breathing room on the sand. That&#8217;s why I&#8217;d suggest planning a sightseeing trip for <strong>April, May, or from September to mid-October<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If I had to pick just one month, <strong>May is probably the most beautiful<\/strong>. The city is in full bloom, the days are long and sunny, rainfall is almost non-existent, and you can wander the streets at your own pace without breaking a sweat. Right after the first week of January \u2014 once the local Epiphany celebrations wrap up \u2014 the city goes wonderfully quiet and you&#8217;ll feel like you have the place all to yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, the days are shorter, but temperatures still climb to a very pleasant 17\u201320 \u00b0C, so you can happily sit outside for a lovely pan con tomate and a coffee \u2014 just pack a light jacket for good measure. November is statistically one of the rainier months, but as I mentioned, showers here tend to be quick and dramatic rather than all-day affairs, so they won&#8217;t ruin your plans to explore the city&#8217;s brilliant little caf\u00e9s. Not only does the sun blaze with a UV index of 10\u201311 and average city-centre temperatures hover between 33 and 35 \u00b0C, but the second week of August also brings the massive Feria de M\u00e1laga street festival, which sends prices soaring and makes finding a room feel close to impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On top of that, summer can bring the <strong>Terral phenomenon<\/strong> \u2014 a hot, bone-dry wind blowing in from the interior that can push temperatures above 40 \u00b0C in a matter of hours, making even the nights uncomfortably warm.
