<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p><strong>The most charming town in P\u00e1lava is certainly Mikulov. <\/strong>You won&#8217;t find any similar town in the Czech Republic. I often say that time moves differently in Mikulov; no one rushes, everyone is relaxed, and a glass of wine at 10 AM is perfectly acceptable. In short, it has a distinct Southern European feel.  <\/p>\n\n<p>True connoisseurs will be pleased that although Mikulov is a small town, you&#8217;ll find a large number of excellent restaurants and cafes here. The museum strives to be modern and interactive, but it is somewhat small, and a tour will take you a maximum of an hour, yet it is still worth a visit.  <\/p>\n\n<p>In the museum, you&#8217;ll learn about the most significant Ice Age human encampment on Earth, located nearby in Doln\u00ed V\u011bstonice. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Mariansky_Mill_Quarry\"><\/span>4) Mari\u00e1nsk\u00fd Mill Quarry<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"805\" src=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/lom-u-mikulova.jpg\" alt=\"Flooded Quarry a Short Distance from Mikulov\" class=\"wp-image-57012\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/lom-u-mikulova.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/lom-u-mikulova-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/lom-u-mikulova-1024x687.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/lom-u-mikulova-768x515.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The quarry is located a short distance from Mikulov.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Our favorite swimming spot is the Mari\u00e1nsk\u00fd Mill Quarry, where the water is crystal clear. It&#8217;s worth noting that this flooded limestone quarry is very popular, and on summer weekends, it tends to be crowded with tourists. <strong>Therefore, from the end of June 2020, an entrance fee of 100 CZK per adult was introduced<\/strong>, and tourists should only use environmentally friendly sunscreens.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Devicky_%E2%80%93_Maiden_Castles\"><\/span>5) D\u011bvi\u010dky \u2013 Maiden Castles<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/devicky-pavlov.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-57013\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/devicky-pavlov.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/devicky-pavlov-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/devicky-pavlov-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/devicky-pavlov-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">From D\u011bvi\u010dky, there&#8217;s a beautiful view of the surrounding area.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p><strong>The very popular ruin of the Gothic castle D\u00edv\u010d\u00ed hrady (also known as D\u011bvi\u010dky) dates from the early 13th century and can be reached directly from Pavlov  <\/strong>with a short and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.natreku.cz\/trasa-palava-devin-devicky\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.natreku.cz\/trasa-palava-devin-devicky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-schema-attribute=\"mentions\"><strong>pleasant walk<\/strong><\/a> along the vineyard. <\/p>\n\n<p>D\u00edv\u010d\u00ed hrady got its name from three rock formations that stand directly in front of the ruin on the slope, which, according to legends, represent petrified girls. From the ruin, there&#8217;s a beautiful view of the P\u00e1lava Protected Landscape Area. The path to the ruin is not suitable for strollers; a baby carrier would be better.   <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Aqualand_Moravia\"><\/span>6) Aqualand Moravia<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>If you have children, you might want to visit the aquapark a short distance from Pasohl\u00e1vky, which features 16 pools and 24 slides. Lavender and photography enthusiasts surely know about it. It&#8217;s located in Starovi\u010dky, and entry to the field is charged. During the season, self-picking is available here.    <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"8_Dolni_Vestonice\"><\/span>8) Doln\u00ed V\u011bstonice<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>Those interested in the history of mammoth hunters should stop in Doln\u00ed V\u011bstonice, where you&#8217;ll find a <strong>museum exhibition<\/strong> about the local finds at the mammoth hunters&#8217; settlement, housed in the former 16th-century Baroque town hall. In Doln\u00ed V\u011bstonice, you&#8217;ll also find a charming Baroque    <strong>St. Michael&#8217;s Church <\/strong><strong>, which records mention as early as <\/strong>1389.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"9_Kobyli_Vrch_Observation_Tower\"><\/span>9) Kobyl\u00ed Vrch Observation Tower<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/kobyli-vrch-rozhledna.jpg\" alt=\"Sunset at Kobyl&#xED; vrch observation tower\" class=\"wp-image-57015\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/kobyli-vrch-rozhledna.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/kobyli-vrch-rozhledna-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/kobyli-vrch-rozhledna-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/kobyli-vrch-rozhledna-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kobyl\u00ed vrch Observation Tower<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>We love structures that seamlessly blend into their surroundings while adding something extra. The Kobyl\u00ed vrch observation tower is precisely that; it has been here since 2018, and architects J. Role\u010dek and J. Vojt\u011b\u0161ek, a native of Kobyl\u00ed from the Brno studio KEEO Design, truly outdid themselves.  <\/p>\n\n<p>What&#8217;s particularly appealing about it is its shape, which makes it accessible even for wheelchair users. <strong>The observation tower is 7.5 meters high and stands on the highest point in the village, Kobyl\u00ed vrch, which locals call Homole, at an altitude of 334 meters above sea level.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"10_Na_Turoldu_Cave\"><\/span>10) Na Turoldu Cave<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>A short distance from Mikulov is <strong>Na Turoldu Cave (385 m a.s.l.), which is one of the oldest nature reserves in the territory of today&#8217;s P\u00e1lava Protected Landscape Area and Biosphere Reserve.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p> <strong> Na Turoldu Caves are the only accessible caves in Jurassic limestone in the Czech Republic; it is not a stalactite cave. The cave is adorned with <\/strong>unique \u201cTurold decoration\u201d \u2013 corrosive shapes, similar to coral reefs, which evoke a walk on the bottom of a Jurassic sea.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>The cave is open to the public from May to October; in April and November, it&#8217;s accessible by prior telephone arrangement only. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"11_Divci_%E2%80%93_Orphan_Castles\"><\/span>11) D\u00edv\u010d\u00ed \u2013 Orphan Castles<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>A pleasant walk to the Sirot\u010d\u00ed hr\u00e1dek ruin starts in <strong>Klentnice<\/strong>, which you can reach by car in a few minutes from Mikulov. The <strong>ascent takes about half an hour and can be managed by families with children. <\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n<p>The castle was built on two limestone rocks separated by a deep gorge and today offers magnificent views of P\u00e1lava. After descending back to Klentnice, you can grab a bite at the excellent <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Caf\u00e9 Fara\" href=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/en\/doporucujeme\/cafe-fara\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Cafe Fara<\/a> cafe and restaurant. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"12_Lednice_Chateau_and_Gardens\"><\/span>12) Lednice Chateau and Gardens<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/lednice-zamek.jpg\" alt=\"Lednice Chateau\" class=\"wp-image-57016\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/lednice-zamek.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/lednice-zamek-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/lednice-zamek-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/lednice-zamek-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Lednice Chateau<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Allocate at least one day for Lednice; we spent two full days there. Lednice Chateau is one of the most beautiful English Neo-Gothic complexes in Europe. Several <strong>guided tours pass through the chateau interiors, but even if you&#8217;re not a fan of guided tours, there&#8217;s still plenty to do here.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n<p>Lednice Chateau boasts a beautiful French garden and a chateau park. In the park, <strong>you can take a boat ride from the Moorish Waterworks to Janohrad, enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride, or climb the Minaret observation tower.<\/strong> Why a minaret was built here isn&#8217;t entirely clear, but a legend suggests that Alois Lichtenstein originally wanted to build a church, but the church didn&#8217;t permit him a second one, so he decided to build a mosque out of spite.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"13_Valtice\"><\/span>13) Valtice<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/valtice-vylety.jpg\" alt=\"valtice chateau\" class=\"wp-image-57017\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/valtice-vylety.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/valtice-vylety-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/valtice-vylety-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/valtice-vylety-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Valtice Chateau<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>In Valtice, you&#8217;ll find a chateau that is part of the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape and is inscribed on the UNESCO list. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it served as the representative seat of the Liechtensteins. <strong>However, in good weather, we recommend embarking on one of the educational trails that will lead you through the beautiful surroundings full of sunflowers and vineyards. <\/strong>In Valtice, you can also visit the Valtice Underground, a labyrinth of wine cellars that have been here since the 13th century. A short distance from Valtice, you&#8217;ll also find the Iron Curtain Museum.    <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"14_Kocici_Skala\"><\/span>14) Ko\u010di\u010d\u00ed Sk\u00e1la<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>If you enjoy walks, you can set off from Mikulov to Ko\u010di\u010d\u00ed sk\u00e1la. A red-marked hiking trail passes around Ko\u010di\u010d\u00ed sk\u00e1la, and parallel to it, a cycling path and the Mikulov educational trail.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Ko\u010di\u010d\u00ed sk\u00e1la is made of limestone, and in spring and summer, you can encounter typical flowers of the Pavlov Hills here, such as the dwarf iris, hairy flax, and tuberous comfrey. <strong>From Ko\u010di\u010d\u00ed sk\u00e1la, you have a view of other peaks and landmarks of the Pavlov Hills, such as D\u011bvi\u010dky, Sirot\u010d\u00ed hr\u00e1dek, or Svat\u00fd kope\u010dek in Mikulov.<\/strong><br\/><\/p>\n\n<p>Do you have any other tips for P\u00e1lava and the surrounding area? The enclosed campsite area with two water lagoons is located on the bank of the upper Novoml\u00fdnsk\u00e1 Reservoir, and entry is charged 100 CZK per person during the season. The price of renting a boat depends on the type you choose. We opted for a motorboat with a canopy, and it cost us 350 CZK per hour.
