Finding affordable accommodation in the High Tatras can be quite a challenge, especially during peak season. Treks in the High Tatras \" class=\"wp-image-53544\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Skok Waterfall and Luk\u00e1\u0161&#8217;s Statesmanlike Pose<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Route\"><\/span>The Route<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p>You can start at \u0160trbsk\u00e9 Pleso (train station) where you will follow the yellow trail to the crossroads with the magistr\u00e1la (as they call the main path), where you turn left and walk for 5-10 minutes between the hotels of the sports complex.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-53545\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/cesta-na-vodopad-skok.jpg\" alt=\"Path to Skok Waterfall in the High Tatras\" class=\"wp-image-53545\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">View from the Trail to Skok Waterfall<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<p>For us, the landmarks were the ski jump, lifts, and cable car. From there, the path gradually ascends, first leading through the forest of Mlynick\u00e1 Valley, then through dwarf pines and Tatra pines. Once you get past the dwarf pine section, you will soon see the magnificent Skok Waterfall before you.  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The trek takes 2.5-3 hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-53546\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/vodopad-skok.jpg\" alt=\"Skok Waterfall\" class=\"wp-image-53546\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Luci also wanted a photo with the waterfall, but it&#8217;s not quite statesmanlike anymore \ud83d\ude00<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_from_Strbske_Pleso_to_Popradske_Pleso_and_on_to_Sliezsky_Dom\"><\/span>2) from \u0160trbsk\u00e9 Pleso to Popradsk\u00e9 Pleso and on to Sliezsky Dom<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>Families with children also hike from \u0160trbsk\u00e9 Pleso to Popradsk\u00e9 Pleso; it&#8217;s a relatively easy route. However, if you continue from Popradsk\u00e9 Pleso to Sliezsky dom, we recommend leaving the children at home. This is a rather demanding, full-day hike. But it&#8217;s definitely worth it.   <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-53547\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/popradske-pleso-ostrva.jpg\" alt=\"Popradsk&#xE9; Pleso view from Ostrva\" class=\"wp-image-53547\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">View of Popradsk\u00e9 Pleso from Ostrva Peak<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_the_Route_Looks_Like\"><\/span>What the Route Looks Like<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p>From the Solisko sanatorium, we <strong>walk around \u0160trbsk\u00e9 Pleso from the right<\/strong>, and then begin to ascend along a forest path over the Trig\u00e1n ridge (you&#8217;ve probably realized how difficult it is for me to decline Slovak names in Czech). From there, we continue to the crossroads of the &#8220;winter path&#8221; along the red trail, and from the crossroads, the path leads briefly through the forest, and then we join an asphalt <strong>path that will lead us to Chata pri Popradskom plese<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p>If you continue further, check the sky for storm clouds (not like us, read here). If the sky is clear (nicely blue), we walk around the lake and continue across the bridge over the \u013dadov\u00fd potok to the other side and begin to ascend. <strong>Here you&#8217;ll work up quite a sweat as you scramble up to the saddle below Ostrva<\/strong>, from where there&#8217;s a magnificent view of the Mengusovsk\u00e1, Zlomiskov\u00e1, and Rumanov\u00e1 valleys. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-53548\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/vysoke-tatry-bourka.jpg\" alt=\"High Tatras storm\" class=\"wp-image-53548\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This is what it looks like when a storm is heading your way<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<p>From here, the rest of the path is less demanding (unless a storm catches you like it did us) and you&#8217;ll gradually start to descend towards Sliezsky dom (which we just barely didn&#8217;t reach due to the storm).<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trek duration: 5-6 hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elevation gain: 700 m<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Distance: 14.5 km<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Chata_Pri_Zelenom_Plese\"><\/span>3) Chata Pri Zelenom Plese<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>A wonderful hike that seemed easier to us than &#8220;on paper&#8221;; the ascent is gradual, so even less fit individuals can manage it (which we were at the time).<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-53549\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/chata-pri-zelenom-plese.jpg\" alt=\"Chata pri Zelenom Plese\" class=\"wp-image-53549\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The route ends at Chata pri Zelenom Plese, where you can stay overnight<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_get_There\"><\/span>How to get There<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p>We set out from Tatransk\u00e1 Lomnica along the yellow trail through a forest path upstream of the stream<strong> <\/strong><strong>Ke\u017emarsk\u00e1 Biela voda. The path leads for a long time through a small forest, past a place <\/strong>, which is called \u0160tudentsk\u00e1 stud\u0148a, and you&#8217;ll recognize it by the shelter built there where you can sit down and have a snack.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-53550\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.loudavymkrokem.cz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/chata-pri-zelenom-plese-udoli.jpg\" alt=\"Green Lake in the Morning\" class=\"wp-image-53550\" title=\"\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Morning Rays over Green Lake<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n<p>From there, you continue to ascend, and the forest gradually thins out; you&#8217;ll enter the dwarf pine zone until you finally see a magnificent hut by an emerald green lake, surrounded by the majestic triangular wall of <strong>Mal\u00fd Ke\u017emarsk\u00fd \u0161t\u00edt<\/strong>. From the hut, you can also see Baranie rohy, \u010cierny \u0161t\u00edt, and Kolov\u00fd \u0161t\u00edt to the west, along with the Frozen Valleys. <\/p>\n\n<p>Directly above the hut rises Jastrabia ve\u017ea, and a bit further to the right is the threshold of \u010cerven\u00e1 dolinka and Koz\u00ed \u0161t\u00edt. To the north of the hut, there is also Biele pleso and Kopsk\u00e9 sedlo, where a hiking trail leads, but it was closed when we were there. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>You can stay overnight at the hut, and we can only recommend it!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trek duration: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tatry.cz\/cs\/clanky\/1\/typ\/tour\/cas\/390\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">06:30<\/a> (round trip)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elevation gain: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tatry.cz\/cs\/clanky\/1\/typ\/tour\/prevyseni\/641\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">641<\/a> m<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Are you looking for a longer trek or a family hike in the Tatras?
