This park offers not only breathtaking views but also rich fauna and flora. The lake is protected as a natural monument, which testifies to its extraordinary ecological and aesthetic value.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Lago di Braies is characterized by emerald to turquoise water, whose charm is enhanced by the surrounding landscape composed of pines and larches. In autumn, these trees are adorned in fiery colors, further enhancing the lake&#8217;s beauty. Above it rises the majestic mountain <strong>Croda del Becco<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Its geographical location near Lanzoni and the climbing center <strong>Cortina d&#8217;Ampezzo<\/strong> makes the lake a popular tourist destination. Accessibility by car from Innsbruck takes less than two hours, making it an easily accessible destination with magnificent scenery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Lago_Di_Braies_Was_Formed\"><\/span>How Lago Di Braies Was Formed<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>Lago di Braies was formed as a result of a natural phenomenon known as <strong>lago di sbarramento<\/strong> (a lake formed by damming). Geologically, it was formed centuries ago when massive rockslides blocked water flows in the Braies Valley, thus creating this magnificent mountain lake.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The water that accumulated behind the rocks gave rise to the lake, whose waters now drain through underground channels.<\/p>\n\n<p>According to legend,<strong> its origin is linked to the local \u201cwild\u201d mountain dwellers,<\/strong> who created the lake to protect their treasures from greedy shepherds. They opened underground springs, whose waters flooded the valley and formed the lake, thus separating the mountains from the valley. <\/p>\n\n<p>Access to the lake is very easy thanks to a road leading almost to the water&#8217;s surface. This easy access makes Lago di Braies a popular destination for trips in the <strong>Dolomites<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_get_to_Lago_Di_Braies_and_where_to_Park\"><\/span>How to get to Lago Di Braies and where to Park<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>The easiest way to get to Lago di Braies is by car; the lake is about a 1.5-hour drive from Bolzano. When driving north on the A22 motorway, you then need to follow signs to Bruneck and further to the lake.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Public transport<\/strong> works quite well here. From Cortina d&#8217;Ampezzo, you can take bus line 445, which will transport you via Dobbiaco\/Toblach to Lago di Braies.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Parking_at_Lago_Di_Braies\"><\/span>Parking at Lago Di Braies<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p>As more and more tourists flock to Lago di Braies, parking options were restricted in 2024, even though there is a huge parking lot in front of the lake, during the main summer season from <strong>July 10 to September 10, 2024 <\/strong> from <strong>9:30 AM to 4:00 PM<\/strong>, the road was closed to cars, motorcycles, and buses <strong>without prior reservation.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p>If you wanted to come here, it was necessary to purchase a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pragsparking.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">DAY-STAY TICKET<\/a><\/strong> for <strong>\u20ac38<\/strong>, which secured you a spot at the nearest parking lot <strong>P4<\/strong> by the lake and also included a food voucher worth <strong>\u20ac15<\/strong>, which could be redeemed at the local restaurants (<strong>Emma&#8217;s Bistro<\/strong> or <strong>Panorama Restaurant<\/strong>). <\/p>\n\n<p>However, you could easily park in more distant parking lots. <\/p>\n\n<div class=\"gyg-iframe-container\" style=\"margin-bottom:1.5em\"><iframe style=\"border:0;height:100%;width:100%\" title=\"GetYourGuide activities widget\" src=\"https:\/\/widget.getyourguide.com\/default\/activities.frame?widget=wp_activities&amp;currency=CSK&amp;locale_code=en-GB&amp;number_of_items=3&amp;partner_id=MKZ64IS&amp;q=lago%20di%20braies%20\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_Do_at_Lago_Di_Braies\"><\/span>What to Do at Lago Di Braies<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>Lago di Braies in the Dolomites is one of the most beautiful places you can visit, which is also why there is such a huge number of tourists here. Its emerald waters and magnificent mountain backdrop attract tourists from all over the world. <\/p>\n\n<p>If you do come here, we recommend at least walking around the lake; this route is approximately 3.6 km long and takes 1 to 1.5 hours.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you prefer more challenging hikes, you can try climbing <strong>Croda del Becco (2810 m)<\/strong>, from where you&#8217;ll have magnificent views of the Dolomites.<\/p>\n\n<p>Another option is a trip to <strong>Malga Foresta<\/strong>, where a relatively gentle trail leads, suitable even for families with children. This trip includes a beautiful walk through the forest and a pleasant stop at a mountain hut.  <\/p>\n\n<p>For those looking for something exceptional, try heading to <strong>Picco di Vallandro<\/strong> for panoramic views; if you&#8217;re up for it, it&#8217;s best there at sunrise.<\/p>\n\n<p>All trails are well-marked and lead through the beautiful landscape of the <strong>Fanes-Sennes-Braies<\/strong> park, so no matter what you choose, you&#8217;ll be thrilled. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Boat_Rental_at_Lago_Di_Braies\"><\/span>Boat Rental at Lago Di Braies<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p>One of the most popular activities is to go boating on Lago di Braies. Wooden rowboats are available for rent there from <strong>June to the end of September<\/strong>, every day from <strong>10:00 AM to 5:00 PM<\/strong>. The price is <strong>\u20ac18 for half an hour<\/strong> or <strong>\u20ac28 per hour<\/strong>. It&#8217;s nothing special, but you&#8217;ll get a meal. <\/p>\n\n<p>Last time, we went for coffee and something good at <strong>Emma&#8217;s Bistro<\/strong>, and even though it doesn&#8217;t have great reviews on Google, we ate very well and the coffee was good too. Generally, we rarely had a bad meal in Italy.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_to_Visit_Lago_Di_Braies\"><\/span>When to Visit Lago Di Braies?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>We prefer autumn (specifically October), when there are fewer people at the lake and you can comfortably park there. April or May are also good.
