It witnessed significant events, including the baptisms of Kings Philip II and Philip IV. And yet, it is amazing. When you look at it, you can imagine how monumental it would have been if it had actually been finished.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Originally designed by architect <strong>Juan de Herrera in the 16th century, it was intended to be the largest cathedral in Europe.  <\/strong>However, fate had other plans \u2013 when the royal court moved to Madrid, funds for construction dried up, and only about 40\u201345% of the grand project was completed. <\/p>\n\n<p>Today, the cathedral is known as \u201cLa Inconclusa\u201d \u2013 \u201cThe Unfinished\u201d. Although incomplete, its architecture is impressive. The lower part of the main facade, designed by Herrera, is in the Renaissance style, while the upper part, added by Alberto Churriguera in the 18th century, features Baroque <a class=\"thirstylink\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Elements Hotel&amp;Spa\" href=\"https:\/\/loudavymkrokem.cz\/en\/doporucujeme\/elements-hotelspa\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\">elements<\/a>.    <\/p>\n\n<p>Inside, you&#8217;ll find treasures such as a 16th-century altarpiece by Juan de Juni, originally from the church of Santa Mar\u00eda La Antigua. The cathedral also houses a rich musical archive with over 6000 works.   <\/p>\n\n<p>Not into history at all?
