Mozart’s birthplace draws visitors to the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the UNESCO-listed old town, the Mirabell Gardens and the backdrops from The Sound of Music. It’s also a great base for day trips<\/strong> around the region, including the famous Hallstatt. With kids, the interactive Toy Museum is a winner. We had wanted to visit Salzburg, Austria for ages, but somehow it never worked out. This year we set off in our camper van heading for Sicily and finally managed to fit Salzburg in. We expected busy streets and crowds of tourists, but instead we discovered a beautiful, calm Austrian city where we could easily spend several days without ever getting bored.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What actually surprised me was how easily you can walk across the whole of Salzburg. We were travelling with two dogs and our one-year-old son Jon\u00e1\u0161, and it turned out to be one of the best stops on our road trip.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the way, Salzburg is a fantastic base for day trips around the region, including the famous Hallstatt<\/a><\/strong>. So if you keep skipping Salzburg, you really shouldn’t. It’s definitely a city you’ll want to return to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
