The hottest and busiest months are <strong>July and August<\/strong> \u2013 the sea is at its best for swimming then, but prices shoot up, accommodation sells out, and Santorini and Mykonos get seriously packed.<\/p><p>Personally, what suits us most is <strong>late May into June<\/strong> and then <strong>September<\/strong>. The weather is settled, the sea is pleasantly warm after summer, the crowds are thinner and prices are gentler. Watch out for the <strong>meltemi<\/strong> \u2013 a strong northerly wind that tends to blow in summer, mainly around Mykonos and Paros, and can occasionally play havoc with the ferries.<\/p><p>Out of season (November\u2013April) the islands are quiet, but plenty of hotels, tavernas and ferry connections run on a reduced schedule. In season there are also seasonal direct flights to <strong>Santorini and Mykonos<\/strong>. The flight from Prague to Athens takes around <strong>2.5\u20133 hours<\/strong>, plus time for the transfer and onward transport.<\/p><p>You travel between the islands <strong>by ferry<\/strong> \u2013 from fast catamarans to slower big ships. In high season they run often; out of season they thin out. On Santorini you mostly pay for the <strong>caldera view<\/strong> (Oia, Imerovigli, Fira) \u2013 it&#8217;s stunning, but also the priciest option; the inland villages and beaches on the east coast are quieter and cheaper.
