Caravan living is a magical experience. Once you sit behind the wheel and hit the road, something shifts in your mind. Forever. Or at least that’s how it was for us. We own our own motorhome and drove 12,000 km in the first year alone. But the journey to buying our own vehicle took years. In the end, we made a fairly impulsive decision and we’re happy with our choice, but I know plenty of travellers who had to heavily modify their vehicles — or swap them out entirely.

There are hundreds of configurations out there, and a lot depends on your travel style, family size, how much stuff you want to bring, what level of comfort you expect on the road… Some people are happy with a basic camper van for €2,000 with no running water, while others need a 7.5-metre motorhome with air conditioning, a solar system and satellite internet (that’s us).
It’s not easy to navigate the market, and that’s why I’m thrilled that Víťa Válka has created a course about how to choose a caravan and embrace the caravan living lifestyle.
Víťa sent me the course Freedom Travel: Life and Work in a Caravan to review and give feedback on. I liked it so much that I decided to write a full review. If you’re thinking about living in a caravan or wondering whether a motorhome is the right choice for you, this is exactly the course that could help you decide.
TL;DR: The Freedom Travel course is the perfect guide for anyone considering life and work on the road. It offers practical advice from an experienced traveller and entrepreneur who’s been through it all himself. It’ll save you hours of Googling and probably thousands of euros when buying your first caravan. This isn’t a theoretical course about caravanning — it’s a guide to a free lifestyle.

Our Experience Choosing a Motorhome
I’d love to say I spent months browsing listings, visiting dealers and endlessly Googling… but that wouldn’t be true. I had my choice made within a month, and a month later the vehicle was parked outside our house. 😆 Most people don’t have it that easy, though, and spend many months deciding. I didn’t choose badly, but it could have been better. Additional modifications cost us another €16,000.
Thanks to my friendship with Víťa, I had the chance to get a private consultation from him, which helped us enormously at the time, but it didn’t come close to the comprehensive and structured approach he offers in this course.
I’m absolutely convinced that investing in this course will save you a lot of stress, time and probably money too. We could certainly have avoided some beginner mistakes.
What Is the Freedom Travel Course?
It’s an online video course in which Víťa Válka, a digital nomad and entrepreneur, shares his more than ten years of experience with travelling, working and living in a motorhome. The course doesn’t just cover the technical aspects of caravan living, but more importantly the mental and lifestyle shift that comes with this way of life.
Víťa dives deep into topics such as:
- How to choose the right type of motorhome for your needs
- How much caravanning really costs and how to finance it
- How to balance work and travel
- How to function as a family in a limited space
- How to handle practical aspects like internet, hygiene and safety
- How to mentally prepare for life on the road
This is definitely not a superficial how-to guide — it’s a comprehensive guide to a lifestyle that can bring you far more freedom and experiences, because you’ll properly think through what style of caravan living actually suits you.
Detailed Course Content Breakdown
The course is divided into several main modules, each covering a different area of life and travel in a caravan.
Introduction to Caravanning and Vehicle Selection
Víťa starts with the most fundamental question — what types of motorhomes exist and how to choose the right one. Instead of generic advice, he goes into specific details that you can base your decision on.
What impressed me most was how systematically he breaks down the pros and cons of each option — from rooftop tents to trailers to fully integrated motorhomes. He also shows specific models and details you should watch out for when choosing.
Financing and the Economics of Travel
This section was personally the most valuable for me. I know Víťa is a spreadsheet guy who has everything carefully calculated. He talks openly about money — how much different types of vehicles cost, what the running costs are, and most importantly how to finance this entire lifestyle.
I especially appreciate the comparison between a traditional holiday and caravan travel from an economic perspective. Víťa demonstrates that with the right approach, long-term caravan living can actually be cheaper than conventional holidays.
Working on the Road
As an entrepreneur, I was really curious about this part of the course. Víťa shows how to organise your work when you’re constantly on the move. He covers practical aspects like internet connectivity, setting up a mobile office, and how to juggle work responsibilities with travel. For staying connected on the road, an eSIM from Holafly or Yesim can be a real lifesaver across European borders.
The most valuable takeaways here are his tips on mindset and time management. You’ll learn how to separate work from rest, even when you’re physically in the same place all the time.
Travelling with Family and Children
Travelling with a child is a fairly new topic for us (our son Jonáš is only just over a year old), so I’m eager to soak up every bit of wisdom other travellers are willing to share. 😆 Víťa and his wife Renča also have children, so their advice comes from real-life experience.
The course covers educating children on the road, creating routines in a non-routine environment, and how to maintain privacy in a limited space. The insights about how travel strengthens family bonds and gives children experiences they’d never get in school are particularly brilliant. This is something many people have strong opinions about — and usually it’s people who’ve never travelled and can’t imagine that children attend multiple schools, or sometimes none at all.
Practical Aspects of Travel
In this section, you’ll find loads of practical advice — from how to sort out electricity and water, to parking tips, to safety on the road. Víťa has well-thought-out solutions for every situation, including ones you’d never think of (like how to deal with the toilet when you’re far from any campsites).
I’m quite focused on security myself. We’ve been gradually installing various gadgets in our vehicle (including GPS tracking, a motion camera connected to satellite internet, a safe, etc.), but just like with the previous chapter, every piece of advice is another piece of the puzzle.
Community and Sharing Experiences
The course isn’t just about passing on Víťa’s experiences — it’s also about connecting you with the wider caravanning community. Víťa introduces the Camper Guru project, which he co-founded, and shows how a community of like-minded people can help you on the road.
Personal Experience with the Course
When I started watching the course, our own decision about a caravan was already behind us. Yet I still discovered plenty of information that would have saved me time, money and nerves back then.
What surprised me the most was Víťa’s focus on the mental aspects of travelling. He doesn’t just cover practical matters, but also how to prepare for the mindset shift that comes with this lifestyle. His personal stories and experiences give the course an authenticity I haven’t found in other caravanning resources.
For me, the strongest aspect of the course is that it saves you time and money. Víťa’s advice on buying your first caravan (go for an older, cheaper model to start with) and his tips on optimising travel costs could save you thousands of euros.
Compared to other sources (books, blogs, YouTube), the course is far more comprehensive and goes much deeper. While YouTube is full of “lifestyle” videos about caravanning, here you get a thorough and practical guide to permanent caravan living.
What Could Be Improved?
If I had to be critical, I’d perhaps appreciate more information about travelling outside Europe. Víťa primarily focuses on European destinations, which is ideal for beginners, but for truly long-term travellers it would be interesting to hear about journeys to more distant corners of the world.
Also, I’m generally a fan of fast-paced courses. This was a pleasant change, but at times it felt a bit too drawn out. 🙃
Who Do I Recommend the Course To?
The course is ideal for:
- People in the decision-making phase — If you’re still weighing up whether caravanning is for you, the course will give you a realistic picture of what to expect.
- Beginner caravanners — Those who’ve already decided but lack experience will gain a valuable guide that helps them avoid rookie mistakes.
- Entrepreneurs and freelancers — If you want to work on the road, Víťa’s experience of combining work and travel is priceless.
- Families with children — The section on travelling with kids and education on the road is incredibly valuable for parents who worry about how their children would cope with this lifestyle.
What surprised me — the course is useful even for those who already own a caravan. I picked up a few things from the course that I’ve since incorporated into our own motorhome. 😆
The course delivers the greatest value during the decision-making phase. When you’re wondering whether to take the plunge into caravan living, it can save you years of uncertainty and thousands of euros in bad decisions.
Conclusion and Summary
If you’re looking for a guide on how to break free from the conventional work routine, travel and still maintain your income and comfort, then this course is exactly for you. Víťa Válka isn’t just a theorist — he lives what he talks about, and his experience is invaluable.
For me personally, the course was a confirmation that our decision to go down the caravan living path was the right one, even though we could have done some things better. If you’re still just thinking about a motorhome, this course will ease your journey from chaotic daydreaming to concrete steps and a clear plan.
And for those who are hesitating — the course trailer and a sample lesson will give you a better idea of what to expect. Don’t forget to use the discount code LOUDAVYM at checkout for a 15% discount.
Tips and Tricks for Your Vacation
Don’t Overpay for Flights
Search for flights on Kayak. It’s our favorite search engine because it scans the websites of all airlines and always finds the cheapest connection.
Book Your Accommodation Smartly
The best experiences we’ve had when looking for accommodation (from Alaska to Morocco) are with Booking.com, where hotels, apartments, and entire houses are usually the cheapest and most widely available.
Don’t Forget Travel Insurance
Good travel insurance will protect you against illness, accidents, theft, or flight cancellations. We’ve had a few hospital visits abroad, so we know how important it is to have proper insurance arranged.
Where we insure ourselves: SafetyWing (best for everyone) and TrueTraveller (for extra-long trips).
Why don’t we recommend any Czech insurance company? Because they have too many restrictions. They set limits on the number of days abroad, travel insurance via a credit card often requires you to pay medical expenses only with that card, and they frequently limit the number of returns to the Czech Republic.
Find the Best Experiences
Get Your Guide is a huge online marketplace where you can book guided walks, trips, skip-the-line tickets, tours, and much more. We always find some extra fun there!
